Afternoon gang. Anyone in the path of Milton, be safe. He's a monster.

Why do I never get extras of stuff from Amazon???? Son got an extra trampoline. First one got lost and they sent a second one and both arrived the same day. Any of my stuff gets lost and they just cancel my order

    Afternoon all:
Three days now without seeing a tail while hunting :(, we did see 2 cross while driving in just before daybreak.
One thing we are noticing, there are no acorns where we are hunting, we need to find the areas that have them and we will probably find a concentration of deer.

Cool pics. of the bobcats bucktales, we do have them in our area, but I have never seen one locally.

Do you have white oak and red oak in your area? It's my understanding that red oak tannins flavor the meat differently than white, and white acorns are a better feed for consuming the meat.

A friend and I both harvested deer in Northern California several years ago where their diet appeared to be mostly acorns. I’ve no idea what kind of acorns they were. The meat from both our deer was not good at all. It was the only time I hunted that area. We assumed it was due to their acorn diet but I do not know for a fact that was the case. After that I hunted my usual area high in the Sierras where there are few acorns. I’ve heard other hunters say acorn deer are tasty critters. So our deer were eating nasty type acorns or who knows what. (I made sausage and jerky with the meat which turned out pretty good)

We have both, deer prefer the white oak acorns over the red oak acorns. Just up the road from where I live there are both red and white oak trees that the gypsy moths didn't ravage, there are acorns everywhere, we just need to find an area like that where we hunt, there is no bear scat either due to no acorns, no big deal, we just need to check out different places until we find a place where there are acorns, this isn't the first time we've ran into this. A couple years ago we were seeing a lot of deer in an area with lots of acorns, next 3 years there were almost no acorns and very few deer, they definitely move to other areas where their food is.
We have laurel that deer browse on, think bay leaf, when deer heavily browse on that the meat will have a stronger flavor.

A little something every chance we get.
Well, I tried something (sort of) with burgers. I tried to make a smash burger last week, but just with the "yoshi mat" on the grille. Didn't work. Tried on a old griddle tonight, and that was an ah-ha moment. Didn't have any smasher sauce, and I got a stale bun, but the griddle that stays hot was the secret to cooking at least. I'll find a sauce, and work on the quicker timing, because the wife liked them.

NOT near as good as the "samore cupcakes" she made for the church school kids (as it ended up)..... messy, with a ton going on. OMG!

good morning. Trying to get up and out of bed when the alarm goes off at 05:30. Did well with that endeavor yesterday and today. Off to the gym then home for chair yoga and putzing. Should be getting the motor for the pellet grill today.

A sad morning for Floridians. My heart goes out to all. I talked to my friends yesterday as they were driving to Miami from their home on Merritt Island. Their home backs onto the Indian River. A tornado was coming down the highway ahead of them. They got missed, but were a bit on edge over it. They are in high hopes their home will still be there when they return. That is just one small story out of a devastated Florida.

Here in Colorado we only suffer from heat (high for us) and drought.

Heading for Cracker Barrel this morning for breakfast with a bud from Cheyenne. Always an enjoyable visit.

Part’s came last night to install a winterizing valve in my Casita, so that is a focus for later today. But to start the day out, I need to dumpster the raccoon I trapped! Yeah! One less. Although I saw two more leaving my garden…a never ending process I guess.

Here’s wishing everyone a safe enjoyable day! Get a little sunshine in your life!

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! A day "off", and I started it off with a nap! Oh, well.

Best wishes to all our friends in Florida that their damage is minimal, and no one they know is hurt.

    Afternoon all:

Looks like Fl somewhat dodged a bullet, not everyone, but sounds like it could have been a whole lot worse.

:yay:, my buddy finally saw a deer this morning! We went to an area where they had cut a few years ago, lots of deer tracks and lots of trails, only problem is that it's too thick to hunt almost all of it, and off the back of it is solid mountain laurel, which is just as bad, that's why there are deer there! Only way to hunt that cut is to get up in a tree stand over a trail and hope something comes up or down that particular trail!

:wave:Sue! Our deer might not know what those acorns are, there were some acorns where we were hunting this morning, not tons of them, but at least there were some there.
