Ours is tied to our water and sewer fees. It's gone from $65 a month to $139 this last month, in fifteen years. Property taxes have risen similarly. But at least the taxes have something that refunds them if your income is less than a specific amount. As of now my property taxes are probably higher than I would be paying monthly if I had chosen to finance.

Actually there have been several large fires in the area over the years that took hundreds of homes but not as large as the current conflagration. We have friends that lost their home to fire in that area (due to Santa Ana winds/fire) in either the 80’s or early 90’s. The huge fires in northern and Southern California are a complex problem that could be mostly mitigated but no one is willing to do what needs to be done. And water is a part of the problem. I need to stop here cause I’m getting pissed off about this whole situation and I’ll get in trouble if I keep going.

One last comment. After these fires are put out there’s lots more devastation that will happen. These fires will have burned several thousand homes to the ground and all vegetation in hundreds of square miles will be wiped out. The vegetation stabilizes the hill sides from mudslides anchoring the soil with its root systems. With all the vegetation wiped out when we get heavy rainfall later this winter or next winter there will be gigantic mud slides similar to avalanches which will wipe out and bury everything in its path. It will be devastating.
My dad died in a house fire, because of that these fires with all the people losing their homes and some losing their lives really affect me. It brings back terrible memories and horrible feelings and frustrations that’s there’s nothing I can do. All I can do is pray for those people in Southern California.
    Stay safe all.

Not a problem at all and it’s sure not your fault for inquiring about our California fires. It’s just something I don’t much talk about. It’s been 34 years and I still think about that night occasionally and still wish there was something I could have done. I just stay thankful for all the things I have in life. Time to move on and talk about 60+ old fart stuff.

Man, I wish I knew that fight was on! Didn't see it promoted on Prime or Netflix?
This 70+ year old grew up around boxing. My Dad was a ring manager here in San Diego for over 20 years. I got to see Ken Norton fight when he was still an Amateur and in the Marine Corps. I got to see George Foreman put on
an exhibition fight where he fought 3 different boxers for 2 rounds each. Golden Gloves Championships were here at the "Sports Aroma" probably in the early 70's. I got the job of carrying spit buckets for a weekend of fights. Didn't get paid but I got to see some great fights from the ringside floor.

People in the Midwest (me) should be concerned about fires in CA. A lot of our groceries originate from there. Actually, fires like this anywhere affect everyone. We have already witnessed the price surges at the grocery stores. Everything else will follow suite, and won't necessarily recede when (if) things return to normal in CA.

These fires are just horrific, they can hit anywhere in the country if conditions are right , prolonged drought. Thoughts and Prayers for those affected, remember this could be you, be safe, be careful.

I am with you. I will venture out of the house for the first time today. Not so much because of the snow but from a old I have fought off.

I had the same thing. It is finally gone so it is back into the gym and pick up some prescriptions.

I start the same process in two weeks. I need a haircut now and I will probably get one the day before my knee replacement.

In our 2017 Avalon I found that a slush or dirt buildup in front of the sensors makes the cruise control inoperative. When I stop for gas i clean the areas but 30 min later the systems stop working. I use cruise control all the time on long trips. Better gas mileage and stops me from getting a ticket. At this point the Avalon is 7 and a half years old and still rides smoothly.

Good morning. All my congestion is gone so it is back into the gym. I could have gone yesterday but I wanted to wait an extra day. Made some chicken with vegetable soup yesterday and was able to freeze 3 quarts. Going to try a Sous Vide cook on a couple of strip steaks today.

Started my tea before coffee routine. Gonna be sufficiently caffeineated.

Yesterday highs and lows. Played some awesome pickleball, played some fun scrabble. Wife had a heart scan, seems a certain shot several years back did some damage. I don't want to type specifics, but it scared me a bit. I actually had a nightmare about her calling me from a distant place, me needing to come get her, but when she said and repeated the location the line went static. Blllccch. Anyway it's a bit preliminary but that kind of thing scares the shit out of me obviously.

Today is back to volunteer mentoring. 7:45AM walking into a high school. Did I mention caffeine?

The Santa Ana wind fueled fires in Socal is just devastating . I used to live in the Socal High Desert from 2006 thru 2020 and seen some bad Santa Ana wind fueled wildfires . These wind fed fires are more dangerous near or around canyons or passes were the winds are much stronger due to these geological features

I used to commute up and down thru the Cajon Pass on I -15 fwy daily and have seen very bad Santa Ana wind fueled wildfires in this area . Also the San Bernardino mtns and San Gabriel mtns were also a bad area for wind fed wildfires

Some of these wildfires I've seen destroy houses / cabins in the Big bear lake resort and Lake Arrowhead resort areas
