With all the strange insurance denials in Cali I hope they were covered. I know a lot of people weren't. I suppose they most likely had to have insurance to finance. Are they just cancelling people that don't finance? Can't count on much these days...

On another related note, why are we still building like we do? It seems like building codes require construction prone to being a fire hazard.

I may be wrong but I don’t think an insurance company can cancel an inforce policy/contract until the contract period (generally 1 year) is up. If an insured lied or committed fraud then they can cancel anytime. They can refuse to renew policies for any reason or issue a new one for any reason once the policy/contract has reached its end. Generally the policy term is 1 year.
I ran the underwriting division for a large life insurance company and that is where my expertise is. Not real knowledgeable on property insurance

Oh man that is heartbreaking. I live in NorCal and we've had plenty up here. A buddy of mine lives further north than me. He's in a rural area. His wife is French. He said "screw it" and moved to France. If it happens where I'm at, "honey throw the dogs in the Taco, we're leaving the KIA!".

A little something every chance we get.
I liked under protest. You are correct on the "legal" cancellations. I'm glad they were able to get it. State Farm just admitted last week that they had actually pulled out of those markets within the last year. Many of the other majors had as well, but are not as forthcoming yet. This means they didn't renew or accept new, not that people won't get paid (hopefully)

That might’ve fit perfectly to the narrative of the potential city plan developers.

Our go-to grocery store now offers delivery. We're trying it today, and of course it snowed level 2 again last night. Roads have not been cleared yet, and we're 15 miles out. I'm not sure whatever delivery vehicle will make it. I may have to help slog groceries in from the road, if it happens at all. More work for us than their pick-up service, where they put the ordered items in our trunk. I bet the drivers use their personal vehicle, so...
Life is constantly changeable on a dime. This has been a hard winter so far, and as usual, here I am at 6am bitching about it.
Delivery went well... I called in reinforcements; my yard guy has a BF snowblower, got the driveway cleared with TWO MINUITS to spare. Crises averted, that was close! Sometimes you get the elevator, sometimes the shaft. And now we're basking in front of a well-deserved fireplace fire. Life is good. I'm ready for some spring!

    Cuteness overload.

I only have one cook so far with the Sous Vide. I use an Anova Mini. For $51.94 I took a plunge. Used a larhe cooking pot to hold the water, paid for a long long time age, but I am thinking of a pot designed for my cooker if it goes on a decent sale. 10% is not a decent sale.

My son picked up this trimmer and boy is it slick. The Japanese blade cuts through the branches like a hot knife through butter. You always need to do two cuts on the branch to help the tree heal properly.
Amazon.com: Silky New Professional Series 179-39 Telescopic Landscaping Pole Saw HAYAUCHI 390, 21-Feet : Patio, Lawn & Garden At the time the cost was a little over $330 and worth the cost. He uses this same saw where he works.

Good morning. I had to start a repair process on the door from the laundry room to the garage yesterday. It is an original door from when the home was built in 64. The wood where the lock cylinder plate bolts into the door was toast so I glued in some wood yesterday in an attempt to have a firm surface for the plate to screw into. I need to replace the door, frame, and frame support wood in the spring. Door is the most used and abused door in the home. We received a 1in dusting of snow last night, so I need to clean off the drive and sidewalk this morning. It is a balmy 29 degrees out this morning.

    Good Morning :hattip:

Had 4.5 inches of snow yesterday and finally stopped at 2200hrs . Now the streets are iced over and undriveable . Officials are saying yes the Highways are clear but secondary streets are iced over and not to travel on

Local news /weather now are saying the next few days are questionable about traveling on secondary routes

Here’s a pic of my friend’s daughter’s home after the fire. He also sent me a video and the whole neighborhood looks like this. It’s weird though there are still a couple houses that survived, some wood fences and storage sheds etc. that are untouched. His daughter and sil have a thousand questions and so far they are getting no answers.
