ha ha! reminds me of the good old days. I was laid off a lot. if any of us went for a decent job I think we had an invisable sign hanging on us -STEELWORKER,DO NOT HIRE,WILL GO BACK WHEN CALLED. they couldn't force us into a lower paying job,and if you took a job with way less benefits, you were covered by that employers plan, not the steel.makes sense, why should the steel pay anything if you were working for another company!

Last time I got laid off (long time ago) I went to the unemployment office and grabbed a number. This was in SoCal. I think I was the only WB in the whole room. A few minutes went by and a man came out and said something in spanish and about half the people got up and went into a room. A couple minutes later a woman came out and said something in spanish and the other half of the people went into another room. I looked around....I was the only person left sitting! Nobody seemed to care whether I was there or not! Even after asking for someone in charge, I was told to sit and wait.

I am doing both. It is legal and the SS will not count against the unemployemnt.

I do have to pay taxes on the unemployment.

Morning Mark We had our 6yo v fixed last mon. still has sew em ups on her belly but she is doing good. I had to take the 10% cut as I was 5 years before 67.But I was ready and the young cat's needed the work more then I did. At first I missed it but now not so much.. I still go by the shop if I'm on that side of town to have a cup and see what and how they are doing without me. Jim

Ken - she already is running around like nothing happened!! That's my challenge today - trying to keep her from over doing. :)

It's alrady raining up here in northeast PA - and the temp has dropped 5 degrees since I got up at 5:30. It was 62 when I got up and now down to 57 and dropping. Hello, Fall!

    Jim:
I did the math and if I had waited till I was 67 it would take 12 years at the higher rate tp make up the money I will be receiving between 62 and 67. It was a no brainer for me. The SS website has a tool to help you calculate your estimated bemifit.

10-4 Tom I was on that site off and on for day's. In the end it was a no other thing to do if I had held off (A) in 5 y. they might have said sorry no new folk's (B) Over the next five y. I'll get back about 65k of MY MONEY from 1- 1- 011 till when I would have turned 67. I paid in from 1965 till about 2y. ago I think I hit it long time I was ready To be done..... Jim

Hi All, I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out how something we paid into for all those years is an "Entitlement"?????? I think the ins in DC should look at their salarys and perks as entitlements and just do their job:yawn:!!! Ken

morning all! took SS at 62. I told a lot of people,go at 62 unless you can't afford to. I'm sure we all know a lot of people that worked for years and never got to collect a dime. if I even thought that I wouldn't be able to pay bills down the road, I would have kept working. the other thing that irks me,and I'm sure all of us, is -I can't work, I pass too much gas and can't be around other people- that's awfull, you're right, you're eligible for SSI, go sit in the park and watch the people go to work. now I can be in the park too, just gotta make sure i'm upwind of that guy!
