:pccoffee: 'Morning gents and lady. Anyone else having a hard time converting their internal clock back to standard time? I keep waking up an hour early. Managed to snooze for a while this morning, not quite solid rest but at least I remained horizontal a bit longer.

Good morning. It is darn dark out. Only about 46 days until they start getting longer again. 46 days and about 2 cords of wood. The fire has been going for a week straight.

I run a mom and pop type business. I have some customers that are 100% loyal, and others that are price loyal. Those will come into the shop and ask for a product. Then they remark that they have been everywhere else in town and could not find what they wanted.

Some of the products they want are darn hard to come by and have been that way for about 18 months. I keep those hidden for the loyal customers.

There are about 5 other business in town selling the same products I sell. Every one of them refuses to provide after sale service, even if it will not cost them anything but a phone call. Some of these stores go so far as to tell their customers to see me, as I will take the time to intercede with the manufacturer.

Big box stores, large auto dealerships and such like are not the consumer's friend. However, they have the consumer hoodwinked. Often times my prices are 10-15% below the box store price but people assume that big means better pricing. As a whole, the population is getting dumber by the day.

    Morning all:
That's interesting, on the last paragraph of Mikes post. I would have to agree with him!
When I priced a Sterling shower stall and the sliding shower door Lowes quoted $1,130.44, a local lumber co. that I deal with, $768.50.
I had also priced lumber at 84 lumber, for roof rafters for the garage I built. Again, the local lumber co. was around 1/2 the price. Big names aren't always the way to go! Then there's the garden tractor: one dealer $4,795, another $4,195. I also smoke cigars and get them from a tobacco shop that always has them-buy 1 get 1 free.
The lures I use for Walleyes are $9.99 ea.+PA tax. ($10.60). I buy them new off e-bay for less than $7.00. I could go on and on about price differences.
What's the old saying; a penny saved is a penny earned!
    I loves saving money!!!! :)
YEA, YEA, I know: I'm tight, but mama didn't raise no fool! :D I always say I'm tight, not cheap. There is a difference!

I'm considering swearing off Amazon. They keep telling me my order is eligible for free shipping if it is over $35, which sometimes causes me to order 2 instead of 1 of whatever it is. Then they charge shipping anyway! Some "not eligible" horsehockey. Plus they have vendors who operate in Asia and ship from there, and they don't tell you that your order will arrive in 6 to 8 weeks until after you've committed to paying. And then there is the BS they're running against certain publishing houses that don't bow down to the great Bezos.

All in all amazon is perilously close to losing me. As we used to say in the R&D lab, "good fast cheap - pick any two". Amazon has reduced that to "pick any one", and they went with "cheap".

Pretty fair assessment of the situation now days. Sometimes we fail to realize that a mechanic needs to provide for his or her family. Good shops pay fairly, stand behind their work and make a profit that enables them to stay is business. If you have a decent shop you do business with support them with your work you cannot perform.

On a plus side I picked up 2 cases of Redline oil today on a special one day only sale from Racer Parts Wholesale for $129 a case. Saved about $20 off the case price and with free shipping.
