It is a skill. I weld like crap for the first 10 min. So I have scrap to get my groove back. Once I get it I'm good to go..

I like you sig and quote Mike. But no matter how old we are your mother call always tell you what to do. And I bet 95% of the time we all listen to her and do what she asks us to do. ;)

Good morning Jim. Those pups of yours look just like our cat at feeding time. Face planted in the food bowl. LOL

    Have great day.

Morning Mike, I got the flu shot once and was sick damn near all winter. Doctor wanted me to get it as well as the shingles and pneumonia shots this year. I told him no way was I going to get the shots. He didn't like the answer but also didn't push them on me. Hope you and the wife feel better and take it easy this weekend.

    Hi everyone.

Pumpkin chocolate chip bread :drool::drool: Recipe please!

I'm arthritic too, but I try to ignore it. Sometimes it even works! :p
Thanks so much Paul for taking the time to update us. Hoping and hoping and hoping that Charlie gets to keep going the way my dad did. There are compromises but all in all they are not that bad. We're keeping the good thoughts flowing his way from here.
:woot: Use the time well, hope the weather doesn't get in the way too much!
I just heard about the mutation yesterday. They're still pushing flu shots, not sure why if they don't protect a person from getting the bug. :notsure:
Me too. Funniest part for me is the aftermath. Once I got the new hardware, I finally realized just how bad the hip had been and for how long. It was probably mechanically shot for >5 years, but didn't start giving me pain until a year or so before I had it replaced. I thought I was on the youngish side for hip replacement but the surgeon told me that at 60 I was pretty much right in the middle of the age band. I heard the other day that the actor Steve Carell has a new hip (ice hockey injury from his teen years finally caught up with him) and he's in his early 50's. Plus my barber knows a 30-something with a new hip. Stories like that help me feel not quite so old and decrepit. ;)
Good to hear. They look cute as can be too.

I was only 53. Everyone said they wouldn't do it because I was to young. Well when you can't walk and in enough pain your considering heavy drugs....
    So carma is good sometimes.
I was thinking of getting info for it. My daughter in law told me about a guy.
Was watching tv and saw a news piece on him.
What made my decision is he said.
" this stuff has been around along time. I'm just good at what I do."
So that sealed the deal for me. Made a app to go see him. Took x Rays. He saw me walk down the hallway before he even met me.
He is a real cool shit. Asked my like 3 questions and said time for a new hip.
Didn't even look at it. Showed me the photos and it was scary.
I was back to work in 7 weeks with no restrictions. Unfortunately, I can't kneel to long so major engine work is out kneeling on a truck bumper. I get shooting pain up my hip and into my back. Also they lengthened my leg like 3/4 of an inch. So I can't work more than a normal 8 hour day or I get major cramps in that leg because my muscles are stretched that amount all the time now. So I have to sit in the hot tub to relieve that. But outside of that its great. I am so lucky to be able to walk and run if I want. I would be in a wheelchair if not for that. A second chance for a somewhat normal life.

A little statin of some sort will take care of that cholesterol. I've been taking it for years.

X2 we need to see those cute faces!

    Morning all!

Yes, there is a shingles shot. If you have had chicken pox, you have the virus lurking inside. Folks that have had the shingles will tell you that it is miserable.

Statins do help with lowering cholesterol, that much is a given. So are side effects. When faced with the question, I went to the gym. 3 months of exercising and eating better lowered my cholesterol by 40 points total while raising my HDL to just below 60.

However, it is a personal decision and each person has to make the decision based on their own situation. I also had my records sent to a nutritionist, and have been following her advice.

Luckily for me, I had spent considerable time in third world countries where getting food was more important that the type of food. I can pretty much eat any type of diet and not care.

I had always thought avocados were green slime, but now I happily eat them. Bacon and sausage, not so much anymore. Basically it is a matter of trading bad fats for good fats. A side benefit is that it turns out that there is a prostate health benefit to the avocados.

The long and short of this is that at the 9 month mark, I have good lab results, low body fat, more lean muscle and more ambition. I have to admit that some days I feel like a freak. Our social conditioning tells us that a 60+ guy is not supposed to be ripped.

My job requires me to check the id of my customers. The majority of my customers are probably 50 plus. Some look 20 years older than their age, and some 20 years younger. The spry 70 and 80 year olds are almost entirely slim and active. The exposure to these guys was another factor in my choosing the gym over the pill.

In conclusion, all I can say is different strokes for different folks.
