    Morning all:
Welcome 4.0, it's just that time of the year!
Lots of other discussions on here, lot's of knowledge, but more like a cyber coffee shop gathering and just shooting the bull about everyday things. The thread lost a few very knowledgeable people recently, and I miss them posting.
Pull up a chair on the porch, even if you fall asleep your still with us!
Just don't fall asleep too long, we may have to check if your really still with us!

So here's a topic for you all. Should I retire?

More like semi-retire actually. I'll be 62 this year and I am contemplating stepping away from the full-time gig into a part-time consultant role.

Reasons for stopping the full-time grind:

    1. The pace of work has been relentless for the past 2+ years and shows no sign of letting up; it's wearing on me.
    2. My wife is 7 years older than me, how much longer should I keep her waiting until I have free time to do all that stuff retired people are supposed to do
Reasons for continuing to work full-time, or going part-time instead of retiring altogether:

    1. I don't qualify for medicare yet and that stuff's expensive
    2. I can delay collecting SS until my "full retirement age" of 66
    3. We have a nest egg but who couldn't use a few more $$$
    4. I'm afraid I'd be bored silly
    5. I always wanted to be called a 'consultant' :D
Another thing that has me pondering all of this is a pension I earned from the specialty materials company I used to work for. I got an annual notice about it a few months ago and decided to see what it was worth. I went online and it turns out that I can take starting in May, when I turn 62. Not only that but I am "fully vested" at that time, meaning that even if I waited until 65 or whatever the amount I get will not change. So I'd be a fool not to start taking it as soon as possible. It's not a fortune but it will be the first time in my life I will be getting paid for doing nothing! Maybe I *could* get used to just sitting around watching checks arrive in the mail. [IMG]

Anyway that's what I'm sitting here pondering on this morning, as I gather up all the stuff I need to do our taxes. I figure this group has folks of all sorts, some still working and some not, some doing part-time, living on a fixed income, the whole schmeer. I'd be honored if you would share your thoughts. Or even just poke fun at me. ;)

Good morning everyone!! Welcome 4.0 - I'm also an interloper here for another 2 months until I turn 60.

Lynn and I were out of the house this morning at 6AM - met up with the team to crew a hot air balloon flight. We assembled and inflated the balloon, and then Lynn and I both got to fly. It was -12 deg when we lifted off and just before sunrise. The air is actually warmer as you go up...probably got close to 0. :D It was a beautiful flight, especially watching the sunrise over the snow covered fields and mountains of northeast PA on a bright, but cold, sunny day.

    Rob:
The plumbing was relocated to under the sink location on Friday. This will be expensive I am sure. The tile mason was out today and grouted all of the installed tile. It looks really great as we had hoped for. There still needs to be 4 pieces of tile installed around the plumbing under the sink and tile needs to be installed in the laundry room. The tile store did not order the correct amount of tile and the tile mason did not catch the error. Hopefully it will be installed on Monday. Doing laundry at a laundry mat sucks.

Pics of the installed and grouted tiles.

Good day  I hope all are well.

Wow 6! That is so very cool. Need to put ride in hot air balloon on the bucket list. Thank you for sharing that. :)

Tile looks great Tom! :) There are always some catches in a project of that size, it'll all come together fine. ;)

"eco bust", that answers that question.

First day of break, slept a few hours this morning. Did a few chores and just chillin' with the pups while we wait for Kristi to get home from work. Wondering if we're going to get any of the snow forecasted; nothing yet. :notsure:

 Hi Rob. Snow is coming here instead I think. They're calling for another 4-6" on Sunday. Yay.

Tile looks great Tom! I hope the back is treating you better. As for the tile shortfall, ain't that always the way.

My wife 'liberated' our bird friend today. I predict it will be back in the morning. Last night I did some research and found out it is a Carolina wren. Makes a heck of a lot of noise for such a little thing. I have a crappy video, have to see about uploading it.

 did you REALLY just ask that?? :goingcrazy: You answered your question with what you want to do - spend time with your wife!!! Go part time if you can keep your insurance!!! You will find PLENTY of things to do with your time!!! I would SO love to either go part time or retire!!! Too many years left, so, I'm stuck :pout:

    Awesome shots 6.

Nice!!! What tile is that. Me likey.

    Hope the back is better.

My wife and I both retired within the past year at age 65. Both of us had those non-stop stress jobs. Medi-Care certainly does help and we took Social Security. It is great being out of the work-a-day world! If you think you can pay your bills and have some money left over for fun, do it! Life is short brother!

Retirement for me would be to get an apprentice.
I still wonder how bad I'd be now physically had I stayed a mechanic.
