60+ year old thread.

Good Morning all. They have had the dryer vent line cleaned Susan. The repair guy told them the issue might be the length of the exhaust vent....it runs through the basement for about 14 foot. I have the same house but have a 13 year old Kenmore we bought at the Sears scratch and dent and don't have any problems. I guess it's like buying a car, you can get a good one or a lemon. . Like Mike said, I buy parts online or at a local appliance repair and keep the old ones going..

We bought a matching set of Kenmore Elite (made in Germany) front loading washer and dryer in 2004. We had to have a pump replaced once on the washer, under warranty. In 2010, Alaska Housing Finance Corporation ran a rebate program that my VA status qualified us for. We replaced the washer then; rebate covered 2/3 of the cost. The appliances had to meet a certain efficiency standard to qualify. Kristi chose a front load Maytag Maxima. She became partial to front load machines while we were stationed in England. We haven't had any issues other than the one pump. Gave the old washer to a young couple in the squadron. Still using the dryer, but we hang dry everything except underwear, socks, towels, and bedding.

 

Thanks everyone for their input. We're going to stick with the plain-jane Speed Queens. I redid part of the dryer vent last night, blew the rest of it out with the leaf blower. Made a mess outside but wow it sure did clean it out.

 

Leaf blower ... That's an awesome idea ... never occurred to me.

Me neither. The salesman at the appliance store turned me on to it. Score another point for local merchants with long-term employees, in other words folks who know their s**t! The only thing I'll say about the procedure is that you are starting and running a gasoline engine indoors. Be careful, use proper ventilation, blah blah.

 

Appliances have been delivered.

Going good. 54°F and sunny today, supposed to be the same this weekend. I was just sitting in the backyard letting the dogs play and planning my grass seeding strategy. Thinking about extending the deck to cover the area that stays predominately in the shadow of the house. Never have been able to get grass to grow well in that section.

Evening all:
Working on a used boat trailer that I purchased. Fourteen scotch lock wire connectors, four other splices, mouse chewed wires, and about a 3" bare spot where the wires rubbed the frame, on the wire harness!
Decided it might be best to replace that harness with a new one.

 

Wise choice.
