    Morning all:
    Welcome Bob, pull up a chair on the porch, just stay away from the big recliner on the left, that one is still reserved for Jim!
    Then after you fill up the cooler you will be good to go. :D

    Haven't heard from Mark in awhile, maybe just too busy????

    Welcome Bob! Yep we're taking applications up until the second Tuesday next week.

    Congratulations Peter! I'm :jellydance: because I'm only semi-retired. Less than a month into being on a 3-day weekly schedule and already I'm wishing for more time off.

    Fyi.....got tired of yanking on those pull chords and went with the 40 volt Kobalt trimmer. It worked so well thinking about retiring the mower and going battery power

    :thumbsup: :woot::cheers:! Congratulations Peter: ENJOY!

    Never thought about a battery powered trimmer. Guess with a smaller amt. of normal trimming they would be just fine.

    I have a question for this sage, august group. Well, those of you who live where there are seasons anyhow. Heat tape; I want to install it on my roof and rain gutter on the sun-free side of the house before winter. Any suggestions, recommendations, bitter experience, etc. would be most welcome.

    :pccoffee: :wave: I've been having 'fun' lately helping my parents decide whether to stay in their house or move to an 'independent living' retirement facility. A few weeks ago my dad just basically announced that they were going to move, to which my sister's family and and mine said "what can we do to help?" My wife in particular was eager to help as my folks were talking about going to the same place her mother was in for a few years, so my wife is familiar with the place, the staff, how to get things done, etc.

    The whole time however I was thinking "why are you doing this." I know some of it - my mom has had a series of medical challenges over the past 1-2 years and it has put a strain on my dad as caregiver. Plus the house still needs to be looked after and all the rest of it. The place they were talking about going is nice, as those places go, but not as nice as their own home could be, if they had some more help - at least to my way of thinking.

    So, a couple of weeks pass and we really don't hear much one way or the other about what we can do to help with the move, when it's happening, etc. I called them Friday and asked what's up and my dad said "stand by." Hoo boy.

    So yesterday I went over there and we talked about it for a few hours. There was an amazing amount of topic drift. I'd say "is it a burden for you to have to do so much cooking" and my dad would reach for the cookbook and show me the latest recipe he tried; turns out he's really been getting into being the chef. I'd say "is it trying to figure out what to take and what to let go" and my mom would reach into a cabinet and start pulling out old pictures and asking me which ones to keep. Let's just say it took a while and a wee bit of coaching to keep to the topic. :rolleyes:

    Anyway it boils down to them not really wanting to leave their home but feeling as though they have no alternative. We talked a lot about alternatives such as having a nurse/aide come in a couple of times a week to help my mom bathe (my dad does it now), having a meal delivered once a week (a big meal that would last them 2-3 days), stuff like that. We talked about the plusses of moving, such as more social contact and 24x7 staffing so there would always be someone right there to help. I still don't know what they'll decide but we did manage to work through a lot of the questions and issues and take an honest look at the alternatives. It felt like a productive use of time for sure.

    As I was getting ready to leave my dad said "thanks son, this was a big help. Your mother and I keep trying to discuss this but we keep drifting off the topic. Well you know - we did it today too!" Gotta love it. :)

    It is always difficult to work through issues with aging parents. Lynn lost her dad last year after a long struggle - luckily her mom is still doing well at 89. My mom had some real challenges this summer and I thought we were going to have to put her into a care facility. She rebounded, though, and seems to be hanging in there. It's no fun though to watch them age and decline.

    So, have you all missed me??? Work, Mom, puppy, new pool....... Ugh.

    Here's Sunny. 14 weeks old now and 31 lbs. She is truly a dream - wonderful personality, not a chewer, sleeping through the night. These were from yesterday.

    I took this last one today - a friend stopped by on her way home with a new puppy. 11 weeks old. She and our two had a wonderful time playing. Here is Sunny showing her Ninja moves.
