Thanks , I just got it in July after looking at a lot of High priced junk! So far I've added black camper shell & New tires. I see you're in Palmer,Ak. I spent 10 yrs in Anch. & Wasilla .1975-1987( left for 2) Good friend owns Don's GM Parts in the Butte.

Wish me luck, put mine in for the frame replacement on Monday and got a call this morning that it was done. The service writer told me Toyota paid $12,200 for the job. Also had a new clutch, pressure plate, throw out brg, and flywheel as well as state inspection and emissions. Good for another year or two. Ill post on how they did later.

 

Where did you have yours done Ken?

It is possible to have 2 sets of TPMS numbers stored in the Tacoma memory. This will cause the TPMS light to come on after 20 minutes of operation. I think I have another wheel bearing going bad. Say good bye to another $400 in the spring.

 

Johneman/ Homertaco / All: Thanks for the Welcome! The frame on my '02 Tacoma was replaced in 2009 ,prior to me -Still looks in Nice shape -Hope to keep it that way! Bad thing here in Indiana they use Salt so you need to wash the undercarriage at least once a week to try & stay ahead.

 

Morning Tom. I don't think you can store two sets; you have to recode for each set when you swap over between sets (every time) if I understand the system correctly. My Winter set has sensors, but I've never recoded. My TPMS light comes on and off randomly all Winter long ... I refer to it as my "good traction light." Put the Summer set back on, and it never comes on all Summer.

I was going off the info given to me by the shop this morning after they fixed the problem. The TPMS light bothered me. I am a TYPE "A" so I guess it goes with the territory.

 

I've often thought about ordering the re-coder off Tire Rack. It's ballpark $100 IIRC. Over time I've learned to not let it bother me.

 

Hey Craig, how are you doing? Had the recall done at Faulkner in Trevose. Had the leaf spring TSB done there years ago and had to put in back in for all the recalls(5) when the air bag light came on. They found the frame rust in August, ordered the frame, and said they would call when it was in. Got a call Last Wednesday, made an appointment for Monday and got the call it was done this morning. Just picked it up and drove it home with no problems. Everything feels tighter then when I put it in. I would give them a thumbs up. You getting yours done?

Don't mind at all Rob. it was $1600. Feels good to have a good clutch again.

Ring gear teeth were okay Tom, the flywheel had major heat cracks from when I originally overheated the clutch pulling a woman's PT Cruiser out of the mud. I was pulling and when it wasn't budging (clutch was smoking) I discovered she still had it in PARK. Damage was already done. No more of that unless I double check it's in neutral or the direction I'm pulling.

Time will tell if they did a good job. The service writer said it's a one year unlimited warranty on all their work. Time will tell.

My truck is too heavily modded - I highly doubt a stealership would swap a frame on a truck with a body lift and dual transfer cases...

 

Thought about buying one as well.

Hope the wife and children are doing ok.

Thought it might be something else. In my younger days I replace the clutch, PP, and TOB on three former cars and never had a flywheel problem. TY for the cost estimate too. I have just over 96K on mine and will probably need a new clutch in about 30K.

 

Our county has a recycling center. I hefted the TV into the back of the Taco and hauled it over to them. Free. Maybe you should check local government services to see if you have a similar option?

One word: electrical tape. Ooops that's two. I know someone who popped the control binnacle out of their Honda Fit, opened it up, and covered the !@##$$%^ TPMS light with a strategically carved piece of electrical tape so as to never have to see the confounded thing again. Not mentioning any names of course.

 

Never know till you ask Craig. Have you had it in for any recalls?

 

None of them applied because what they were for is no longer on the truck.

 

Don't mean to highjack the thread but thought I'd chime in since I turned 68 today. Have had 5 Tacoma's my latest a 2014 DCLB so I can haul the grand sons around. I'll attach a pic of my most recent Tacoma before the 2014 and will send some pic when I get the 2014 done.
