So basically, unless the charger goes haywire, you can't over charge the battery?

 

Correct. It will tell you when it's in maintenance mode. Very simple but rock solid

I've had a regular Battery Tender hooked up to my motorcycle battery, but it tended to dry it out. My local, small town motorcycle mechanic said it would do that. I had it hooked up 24/7 when not riding. I did not think it would do that, dang.

We have our tenders hooked up 24/7 365. My bike is in there for 6 months. Same thing. Battery is like 5 years old. It will gas some. But you check it before riding season. Once a month for 24 hours is nothing.
If your going to have it sit for more than a week you should hook up. There is a constant draw on the battery even when off in these trucks. Short trips won't charge a battery fully. Mine was less than 80% . I drive like 15 miles a day.. So IMO charging up once a month keeps a battery happy and lasts longer.

 

Bad thing is, I had to replace that battery, the one that "sub" for it was slightly taller which now prevents the pigtails from being attached since the compartment the battery is in is limited in size. I'm up shat creek without a paddle if I ever have a low battery and it needs charging, too heavy to push start. May sell the KLR and get something different, more of a street bike instead of a DS.

on a positive note I have started to look and see if there is a volunteer opportunity at the VA that I might consider doing. 22 a day is really eating me up and I want to help lower the number.

 

So u just use the supplied connectors for the battery and plug in remote ,no clips. No muss no fuss.
I have them on all my equipment. No worries about a bad connection with clips.

so you just connect them to the battery terminals and they stay on?

 

Just see how long the cable is. Measure to where you want it to poke out. I extended mine about 8". When I use it I stick the connector through the grill. I hook up. Then when I'm done I just unhook and poke the connector back behind the grill

 

You loosen and remove the battery clamp nuts.put the end with the fuse on the pos side and tighten back down

 

That's how I had mine hooked up.
Sold my car for my asking price, took the cash to the bank and deposited it pronto.
