Boatswain, you guys in PA have some great whitetail hunting from what I hear.

Until about 3 years ago we could harvest 1 buck and 1 doe or 2 does per day for the entire season, starting Oct 15th for archery, about 12 days before Thanksgiving for muzzleloader season and the Sat. before Thanksgiving for rifle/shotgun season. The season ended on Jan. 31st.

Now we can only harvest 3 bucks per season but still a doe each day although our season now ends Feb. 10th.

Good luck with your hunting and shooting and let us know how the 69 gr. .223 works. I am thinking you will like it.

My AR is 1/7 twist and my black powder rifle is a T/C Encore .50 cal.

My favorite center fire deer rifle is my Kimber 84M .308 although I also like my Rem. 700 Mountain Rifle in .280 Rem a lot too. The best old standby is my Rem. 700 Stainless Syn. In 30-06. Have used .270 and 7mm .08 and 7mm Mauser in the past but not lately.

    Morning all:
HOT AND HUMID, can't wait for this to end.

PA "HAD" great whitetail hunting until Gary Alt was brought in to implement a deer management program. We still have deer, but not on the scale we once did.
One good thing is antler restrictions, now you are seeing bigger racks overall, but unless you hunt near a development you don't see a lot of deer anymore, especially on gamelands.
We can only harvest 1 buck, and that's been the rule since I started hunting. Years back you were only allowed 1 deer per season, and needed a doe tag to even be able to shoot a doe, that's when we had plenty of deer. Now it is all different, this year with what I have I can shoot 1 buck and two does, or 3 does. That all varies by license types and doe permits for management zones.
I have a T/C Omega .50 cal. for my inline, and a Lyman Deerstalker .54 cal. flintlock.
    My 2 favorite deer rifles are a Remington 660 6.5 Rem.Mag. W/129gr Hornadys, and a Remington 700 ADL 30-06 carbine W/150gr Hornadys.
Two years ago I shot a buck with a Remington 660 .308 W/165gr Hornadys, got him but not impressed with the .308.
Got to laugh, I can grab a 300 Win. Mag., .350 Rem. Mag., .270, 25-06, or a .243 to hunt with also, but will always go with either a 600 or 660 Remington or various 30-06's that I have. Also have a Browning A-bolt slug gun that I purchased to hunt in NJ, that would be my last choice to hunt with in PA.
We start with archery, then muzzleloader, then rifle, then end with a flintlock season, so we can hunt deer from Oct. through the first couple weeks of Jan. with the proper licenses.

We both have a lot to be thankful for with our choices of available firearms and long seasons.

    Morning all:
    Back atcha Sue!

:woot: Here ya go Gary! Just got back from the range, the 69gr. weren't that great with IMR 4895 and may need to play around with a different powder.
Seems like it likes 52gr HPBT match, and 60gr V-Max so far. The 60gr V-max and IMR 4895 seemed to shoot pretty well, two touching holes that were dead center, and 3 others around them. I think that load has potential and will start to play with different powder weights. The 52gr shot about the same with both H335 and the IMR 4895, I think I will also play with different powder weights to see if I can get that group to tighten up also. For some reason it doesn't seem to like 55 gr tips at all, so I will be concentrating on the 52's and 60's for now, and later on I will work on trying to find a accurate load for the 69's.
What powder do you use to load for the .223 AR?

I use CFE and IMR 4895 mostly.

The H335 and of course 4895 are good choices.

Congratulations on the results with the 52 & 60 gr. Projectiles. Sounds like you are really on to something with the hem.

Thanks, I don't have H4895 so I figured I would give the IMR 4895 a shot. Not the greatest trigger on the bushy, and the sun was coming up over the target, so that 60gr V Max W/the IMR 4895 may shoot even better than the group I shot this morning, those two holes touching at dead center at least gave me some hope!

I put a Geiselle SSA-E 2 stage trigger in mine and absolutely love it.

Wish we were closer so you could try it.

My oldest son fired it at the range and immediately ordered one for his Colt LE6920.

A good trigger as you know really helps tighten up those groups.

I saw a lot of guys recommend that trigger. I want to make sure it is capable of reasonably tight groups before I throw more money into it, the new Bushmasters are not the same as older ones. I didn't buy it to just go BANG BANG BANG BANG, I hope to be hunting coyotes with it if PA passes a law to make them legal for yotes, then again; if one is out in the yard :D !!!!
Just been reading some comments on the DPMS Prairie Master, which looks to be a similar gun. Common consensus is that they need to have app. 100 rounds through them to settle them down, and that they can also be finicky as to which bullets they will shoot. Also the trigger is mentioned time and time again on most posts, and that it should be upgraded.
I'm not alone in going through the process of getting one to be accurate, hopefully just a matter of time.

Man, gun talk took off like a shot. :)
Kalifornia news, they believe they caught the arsonist who started the recent fire at Lower Lake (Clear Lake area), about 3 hours or so from me. He may have started the terrible fire in the same area last year and maybe other fires here in N Kalifornia.
Had my first mater from the garden a couple days ago, a Early Girl, really good. Eating the first corn of the year from the garden tonight. Yum, green beans too.

If you decide on a different AR it is easy to remove your Geiselle trigger and replace the stock trigger before selling.

Yea, but the thing that really made it worse was those slippery fish scales that you, Cheech, and Buzzbait keep getting all over the porch, plus I forgot that you told me about it. I'm over 60 and a little forgetful, you youngsters need to watch out for us old guys! :p

Yea I'll own that. We needed a new hose to wash that stuff off. Well I was on vacation and it was in my truck. But someone who will remain nameless shouldn't have been cleaning fish there. Kept on dropping the knife and stuck the hose...
