morning all: just read that sears/K-mart plan to close 100-120 stores. 5 qt. mobile 1 oil at local walmart is $27.50--local K-mart, $39.99. guess you know where I buy it !!

also just read that married gays pay more income tax than other married couples, because the federal govt. doesn't recognize gay marriage  , YET!!!

Good hunting Jim...giving the pup a work out:)? Enjoy...

Hi Carl...It's amazing how at one time everybody shopped at Sears...My Pop used to take the 5 gallon can to Sears and get it filled from their bulk oil tanks...think he paid like 15 cents a quart...Sears did have good products, but it's hard to compete against price...we've become a throw away society:cool:...
Bet there is a discrimination lawsuit against the gov't. over that soon:eek:...surprised no one has jumped on it yet...Ken

Quit yelling at us and give up the hunting report! uhhh ... please Sir?;)

I miss quail hunting; grew up hunting quail in VA. Up here it's Ptarmigan and Grouse (Ruffed/Spruce). Enjoyable, but not the same as the quail hunting I grew up with. Plus trudging through the snow by the end of October isn't the same either. What Breed of dog do you have? Sorry, I'm just curious. My hunting partner has a German Short Hair. I grew up with Pointers and later on Brittany Spaniels. Thinking about getting a Brittany, but I'm still learning how to play the bird hunting game up here, so I haven't fully decided yet.

Sorry for the ramble ... I know I know ... get off the lawn. :p:D

    Thank you Sir.

Folks in here seem to have a good perspective on the important stuff. Upon retirement from active duty, I kind of went through a introspective view of my life to that point. Realized there were too many times when I let "the Mission and my Airmen" take precedence over family, when maybe they didn't absolutely have too...but that is just part of the deal (from what I've read, most here understand that). For my second career, while still with the Air Force (civil service), I chose a non-management / worker bee job. It's been enjoyable and I don't miss the stress/drama a bit. Plenty of time for the important stuff now ... hopefully before it's too late. Just so ya'll know where I'm coming from. :)

On the "alphabets"... I have to take breaks (days to weeks) from the news myself. Sometimes I find it amazing we're still there 20 years after my Desert Storm/Shield days. Frustrating ... but I try to remember the little nugget Retired Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Robert Gaylor told me at my Senior NCO induction in 1998--"Worry about the things that are within your control."

There I go rambling again ... Take care All ... I'll drop in from time to time to say hi ... and keep my perspective in check! :)

What's that old saying? "A bad day hunting is better than a good day...well, anywhere."

Vizsla -- now I have more research to do. Never heard of them before. Nice pictures.

Pointer's running big I'm familiar with. My friend's German Short Hair has a tendency to do that a little, that's why I've been thinking about a Brittany. The terrain up here is a little too rough for long ranging dog--or maybe I'm getting slower ?

I appreciate the reply--and BTW, gotta a link to start off my Vizsla research?

Here's a few pics from a trip off the Denali Hwy in late Sep. Road the trail 15 miles in from the hwy (ha-read gravel road) before we found the Ptarmigan. Once we found them it was great fun. Only had a couple of hours to get these 14 birds; this was our first trip there and it was getting late by the time we found them. Next time will be quicker because we know how far to go in before we get serious about finding the birds.

    1) My hunting partners Ege and Omer (Ege is the shorter one :))
    2) Me with our birds
    3) Ege was tired by the time we had to head back to beat darkness and wx.

Hope this isn't considered a :threadjacked:!

evening all: just caught up on todays posts. enjoy reading them. lot's of interesting things being talked about.

saw some deer sign today, but no deer. bumped into the guy that was running the dogs on mon. he said there's very few snowshoes in the swamps, very few grouse, and very few deer, so I'm not the only one that's getting disgusted. I never thought hunting in our area would become this bad, along with various other things. just seems like everythings going to chit ! maby should have a yard sale and get the heck out of here.. not having much luck anymore, with things that i've done most of my life.

Bird hunting is not like it was 20 years ago down here. Not the folks out hunting as there were. Times they are a changin the real old no longer hunt and the young are not getting into the sport. We are the last of what it was like in the old days  .. Only thing I can say is Im real glad to grow up when I did..The last of the old days are almost over.. Jim
