Neighbor got a quote on a Toyota Sienna v6 for spark plugs, around $750.

However that makes more sense to me, because it’s a traverse engine and requires the intake manifold and other components to be removed. I forget how many hours Toyota quotes, but it’s a a lot compared to a normal car.

On a RWD Tacoma? That’s outrageous

Well let’s do some math.. spark plugs are 9.99 a piece for iridium NGK plugs.

    9.99 x 6 = 59.94

Labor cost to do spark plugs pays 2 hours according to pro demand.
Labor rate @ 110.00 an hour

Plus they want to replace spark plug tube seals and that pays an additional 2 hours.

So they want 440.00 in labor and 59.94 for plugs im sure. So something around 500 would be fair. And don’t forget the cost of the gasket which I’m not sure about the cost.

WOW, Unbelievable:eek:... OP, you should open a case with the FTC. They will have an agent investigate this types of prices and determined if there is any frauds and stop unfairness to the public. It really bothers me hearing this type of things, business being deceitful and fraudulent. The more complaints the FTC collects from people the better. They can sue the company is they are breaking the law.

I can not believe what some of these dealers are quoting for spark plug replacement. All you have to do is remove upper intake manifold, some brackets, wire connectors, coils & then the plugs themselves. Then properly torque everything back down. So ridiculous. The dealer should do all this work for say $100 total seems fair right? I mean pretty sure it does not cost anything to run a dealership, pay techs, stock parts & etc. I mean they should do the work for free since you can find DIY instructions online or Youtube right? OP call the local news & tell them what a travesty the price quote was that you were given. Maybe even call the BBB & record a complaint. No dealer should make a profit from working on peoples vehicles.

There was a guy who posted a dealer quote sheet he got from his dealer and they wanted like $200. What pisses me off is the wildly different price quotes for the same job. When most quotes I have seen are around $300 where does my dealer in LA come up with $600+? Is that just the “you are in Los Angeles” so we charge double.

In short my guess is yes. LA labor rate is going to be higher than say a place in rural Wisconsin. Just the way it is. They probably charge more hours for the job as well as its LA so why not LOL.

Alldata calls for 1.5 hours. It’s not terribly difficult. Just make sure you have the tools needed and read up on it first. You can buy the plugs yourself for $60.

If you aren’t comfortable doing it yourself, $300 would be a fair price(assuming $100 labor rate)

Freaking dealers give mechanics a bad name!

My friend just paid $2500 for the Lexus stealership to replace front and rear disc brake pads. I almost died and was shocked to learn that he actually thought a newer lexus somehow had more complicated brake system. I told him not really, especially since my 2018 Tacoma still uses ancient drum brakes in the rear.

Depends on what kind of Lexus it is. Say a RX350 brakes will be much cheaper than a GS F-type. Some of the rotors alone for Mercedes cost $2,500 a piece or more.
