VQ30DE. Most are horribly abused but still keep going.

This one has 240,000 miles. It had been horribly abused and was full of sludge when I got it. Cleaned it up using Marvel Mystery oil.

    Coin test.

2jz, 4g63, rb26, VQ30 are some I can think of that are very strong and overly engineered. Great motors to have fun with.

The old school small block chevy is a testament to the power of loose tolerances.

What makes a 22R/RE legendary? They had a crappy timing chain design and were underpowered.

My first truck had a 22R and the head gasket blew. My second truck had a 22RE with munched timing chain guides.

Every Manu. small block if cared for. (and remember oil was horrible back then) Chrysler 318 (had one myself go 330K+ when sold) Ford 302 got over 250K on my own Fox (but overheated it and had do heads so rebuilt sooooo, cheating, I know) and Chevy 350. I didn't pesonally have a high mileage version of those but DID have a 4.3 (3/4 of one) that went over 300K.

    edit: the Ford I6, 240/300

LS series are doing fine for the 'tight is right' view.

Who knows, some people have a real hard on for that motor.

Chevy 6.0 iron-block has been amazingly durable, weak, but i would trust it for well over 250k miles in just about any platform it came in.

I always thought if the 22R had a timing belt, it would have been perfect.
    edit: and quieter.

The Datsun Nap-Z motors were outstanding for longevity; I had one that was driven for 225k miles, parked (with zero prep) for 5 years, then resurrected when I got my license and driven for another 50k before I sold it. Burned zero oil, started in all weather, and still ran like a top. Every single one I've ever seen has had high mileage with a rusted body and frame falling apart around a perfect running motor.

The Ford 300 I6 was nearly as reliable as the Chrysler /6, with the advantage of more torque due to their larger displacement.

Edit- The GM I6's of the 60's & 70's were reliable as well, but were pretty doggy compared to the Ford & Mopar engines.

Yep the Gen 1 Small Block Chevy is still a very good engine , you can easily make 600hp with a stock crank and block and building one is still very cheap in price
