So from my research in order to achieve 2" on a 3rd Gen you have to preload both of these quite a bit.

My question is which one has a less detoriated ride after preloading to 2" of lift? Is anyone running longer coils on the 6112 to reduce the preload?

Unless you are extremely , and I am saying extemely, hyper sensitive to ride quality changes, nothing within the range of recommended preload for either of them will "deterioated" ride.

I would argue this is relevant to 3rd Gens because the preload isn't as bad for others.

I'm assuming one of these options is linear and one is progressive. Can you point me to which?

Edit: 6112 specifies that it is linear, so is icon progressive?

@smitty99 in the case of preload it seems like linear is less effected by preload and handles corners better either way, is that correct? Interesting info I didn't realize they made different spring types like that.

both are digressive. I was going to get the 6112/5160 combo but the highest you can get is 2" lift with the 6112 not including when it settles in. I opted for Icon stage 1s. They were set at 2" from the factory and I added another .25"; not a ton of preload. It rides great on the street and does well on my wheeling trips. I got the Icons over the Bilsteins because I like that I can adjust the preload without having to take off the shock and that the Icons are rebuildable while Bilsteins are basically throw away when they're done.

Careful. Make sure you're talking about springs and not the dampers (shocks)....

The Bilsteins are rebuildable. Just have to send them in. The 6112 can run any coil over spring. So, if you want more lift, put in a higher rate spring; lower the notch to keep the pre load down.
Can you adjust on the vehicle like the Icon's? No. Are the Icons good? Yes.
There are ways to adjust the 6112. They are far from throwaway.

From reading online I saw that there was only 1 facility that actually rebuilds them...haven't seen anyone actually do it. But yes, you can swap the coils but no one sells them so far that I've seen prepackaged with any other coils. Most use the coils that they come with; also you dont need a higher spring rate, just a taller spring.

The icons come from the factory at 2" lift. The ride is great if you want something firmer than stock OR but able to take bumps/hits much better.

I was referring to coil types that smitty mentioned. Preloading a linear spring seems to make more sense rather than a progressive one.

Yea, not sure where the facility is; but they will rebuild em.
You can run Kings, Icon, Toytec, etc coil over springs in them.

I had the 2015 OEM TRD Pro suspension on my truck, which some say is the equivalent to 6112's and now have the icon 2.5 extended travel set at 2" of lift. The ride is nicer off road on the icons, on road not too much different. Just my opinion fwiw.

Ah my bad, I thought he was talking about the shocks, not the springs. In any case, mine rides great with just a little extra preload added. I'm sure the 6112s would ride great as well at the highest perch setting.
