The front is sitting 1/8" higher than the rear when measured. I haven't spoken to the installer about what the before vs after measurements were. (I know he was planning on taking measurements).

Since these are still very new shocks for everyone, I know we're all the guinea pigs for everyone else. I think I'm going to leave mine on the 2nd notch and see how much they settle, if at all.

Mine did settle just a lil. Maybe an eighth. I'm having handling issues now, going back in to redo alignment next week. I'll post results. Hope it fixes it.

No vibes. Wandering, uncontrolled feeling like both front tires are going flat. Didn't happen till a week or so after install.

I'm hoping that's all it is. Can't see how it could be the new springs although they are much softer than I thought they would be at 600#. I would think springs and shocks would be more up and down movement.
The truck follows every groove dip or hole in the road, pulls hard going through a puddle and blows around in the wind. :notsure:
Steering is very touchy, don't like it!

I tried googling, but still unclear.

How are these different than 5100's; why are they better?

To the OP - any more pics? I'm trying to decide if I want to keep mine at the 2nd notch, or drop to the 1st.

Size doesn't equate to "control". Larger size means, generally, they'll hold more oil, and have more area of the shock body, in which to dispose heat. Shocks build heat by internal friction. The front shocks move roughly 1" for every 2" of wheel travel. The 2" 5100's aren't going to over heat on a Tacoma. They run about 30 to 50* over ambient temps, when pushed stupid hard. And by "Stupid hard", I mean, you are going to question the integrity of the truck before they even start to show signs of getting warm. Im running 2" Fox shocks on a 2500 Chevy, and have beaten them to the point the A pillar trim, and glove box fell off, and they still didn't get out of temperature specs, nor showed signs of fade. Any 2.5" shock I have run, had a hard time even getting 20* over ambient temps under hard circumstances.

The only benefit these offer, is 1 more adjustment over the 5100's, and a higher price. Those who believe "Bigger is better", may want these, but there really isn't any advantage over the 5100's as far dampening, or "Control".

To add, Bilstien states their shocks can operate up to 350*. The hottest I have seen them get is around 180*, with the 5100's. WELL within their operating temps. 2.5" Icons only got 10* over ambient temp (120* on the day I tested, and I beat the living shit out of them).

I Agee with the point on control. The more I run these the more they behave like the 5100's. Although they may have a slight edge in dampening, it's very hard to compare side by side. Mainly because you can't compare side by side. I went with the new setup more because I never cared for the stock springs on off road models, and trusting Bilsteins R&D assumed this would be a great mid price setup that would suit my needs. The verdict is still out for me. As I said in a previous post, I think I have sacrificed handling to get suspension. I'm trying some different alignment numbers early next week and I'll pass on the results.

My friends dad has the 5100's at about the same lift height I do, and his truck doesn't ride as well as mine does. You just feel a lot more of the road in his truck. Both of us are on the same size BFG tires too. Now his truck does have 40k miles on it, and mine has 1300 miles, but I wouldn't think that would make much of a difference.

Also, shock temperature isn't the only thing to consider with these. The valving seems to be much better than the 5100 which is what I think gives the better ride quality. Now if it's worth the extra money, that's up to you to decide. But my truck is probably the best riding pickup truck I've ever owned or driven with the exception of the Raptor.

Good points Chris, I'm on the fence on the 6112 vs 5100, 1 extra adjustment and higher price. I'm not yet sold on the 6112. Yeah they look good and are slightly bigger but what else?

Do the trucks weigh the same? Air pressure the same? Miles will make a difference too, as bushings are more worn. Everything I have seen, points to the valving being the same as the Tacoma specific 5100's.
