Anyone know where to find replacement bushings for the lower mount on Icon coilovers? Are they universal bushings or Icon specific? And how much is a standard rebuild if anyone has had one done before?

 

Icon sells the uniballs for about $16.00 each I think, and are available for will call pickup or next day delivery in SoCal.

Hmm. OK thanks Matt. This guy in LB is selling a set of 2.5 ext travel coilovers (no resist) of $450. They have 40k+ miles on them and need a rebuild and lower bushings but Im thinking its still a pretty darn good price. Even with a resis upgrade its still less then the cost of new. What do you think?

Not a bad deal. I'm sure there's also a member on here who can help you rebuild them. Not difficult, especially without the resi. The rebuild seal kits run like $36 or so I think. EDIT: You'll also need to buy 1 gallon of oil.

Still don't definitively know what happened to my motor, but it sounds A LOT like at least one spun rod bearing. I'm going to begin the teardown and removal process tomorrow night after hours, and flip it upside down on a stand, then look under the oil pan to see what happened.

Basically, I checked my oil a month ago, and it was in the normal range. Yesterday, my low pressure light flashed for a second, so I stopped, checked the dipstick, and it was dry. Took almost 3.5qts of oil to bring it back to full, then it started to idle low and rough. A few miles after that, I completely lost power and developed a loud knock. I forced it off the 57 at Temple, limped into the Shell station and got towed.

We'll see what happened, but one way or another, it's coming out and either being rebuilt or replaced. Need to weigh my options against the damage to the crankcase, and then make a decision.

 

Dam what a bummer! How many miles on your motor? There must have been some type of early warning signs if your burning that much oil that fast. Either a really bad leak or something more serious. Clearly the oil issue caused your current bearing problem so there is more than 1 problem. Good luck with it. No chance its covered under power train warranty?

 

120k, so no warranty at all. That's the next thing I did after checking the dipstick, was look all over the motor for any dried or wet oil leak, and came up with nothing.

I had a hard time believing that the motor burned 3 quarts of synthetic high mileage oil, but that's why I'm a bit weary of just replacing bearings and moving on. It needs to be gone through to determine what caused the oil to deplete so rapidly.
