But back in High School I thought fox were cool and kings were king. So people with Icons, how harsh is the on road feel of them?

The breaking top hat is an issue. Ive had 2 break and Icon covered both. But in reality I'm pretty sure it was my fault. My bumps were not set properly at the time so the top hats were taking a pretty good beating since they were acting as part of the bump system. Other than that I love my Icons but no reason you can't have both like my setup.

I am going to be honest Tom.... I dont even completely understand your setup. Did you run Icon before switching to two? And if so how was the ride on road?

I'll do my best here to answer questions.
The coils are 14/700lb kings. I put them on to support the plate bumper, winch, IFS and Mid Skid and other crap that added weight. Before with the the Icon springs (13/650) I had tons of preload cranked in and still had lots of body roll in turns. I added these springs and now have no preload to maintain the same height and the body roll isnt as bad in turns.

I loved the ride and performance of my Icons before I added the bypasses. They perform well out in the desert which is the main reason I upgraded my suspension. I really don't give a fuck about on road performance so they may be stiff but it doesn't bother me at all as I think it just part of the deal when you want good offroad handling.

Here is the deal with adding the bypasses. If you remember the feeling you got on how big a difference it was when you went from stock to a Icon/King/Fox setup and you got all excited about how much better they performed. Get ready to get that same feeling all over again when you add the bypass shock. RL was with me on a day run down the Mojave trail and we were laughing at how smooth my front end was as compared to my rear suspension. My rear is just dakar springs and Icon 2.0 resi's. It does ok but is so far behind my front its just stupid. Someday I'll get to fixing that issue but currently I have some health issues that need to be addressed first.
In the long run you will spend almost as much on this MT setup as you would a LT setup so think about what your long term plans are. I have no regrets, I love the performance of my front suspension and when the rear gets its DMZ SUA and 16 inch bypasses i'll be done and content with what I have.

Insert Family Fued Meme here "Good Answer! Good Answer!" lol well thanks for that Tom! I dont believe I want to do LT so I am going to stick with Mid ideas for now. Idk if long travel is good for go anywhere-ness. I am only used to the idea of LT for going fast in the desert

I have a group of guys with Solo built LT trucks that I run the Mojave trail with to Laughlin and I have never held the group up. You can go fast enough with a good MT setup. But that might just be my age showing. 20 years ago LT and my hair on fire probably would not have been fast enough.

Mid travel front and long travel rear is pretty amazing on a tacoma. The long travel guys can't ditch you.

So this is random and off topic of the midtravel we were just discussing but i just scheduled my truck for the 5k maintenance and they said they dont change the oil every 5k... apparently my truck runs synthetic stock so they change it every 10k. I have never heard of 10k. The longest I have heard is 7k. Any thoughts?

I have a 2012 and it's 5K according to the owners manual. Have you opened yours up and see what they have to say for the 2015? Another question did your Maint Req light come on at 5k?

I haven't opened the owners manual :anonymous: But the salesman told me it was 5k and there is a sticker in the top left corner that says 5k. And yes my maintenance required light has come on. It started a few days ago. I still have 120 miles left at least till 5k. I am taking it to a different dealer than I bought it from. They say the 5k maintenance just involves break inspection and tire rotation.

Do it yourself its easy. Ive done mine twice and actually need to do it again. You can get the rebuild kit straight from Icon for 10 bucks or so. Biggest issue is finding Nitro but we can get Matt at rebel or Anthony on here to hook you up i'm sure.

I have them and do not find the ride harsh at all!! In fact much smoother than stock. And when you get off road these things really work well offering a really smooth ride at speeds.

Icon also addressed the issue of the caps breaking and it was only a couple. Besides the Icon guys are local and offer great customer service.

    To each their own.

Lobster..what do you run on your truck?
