Nope not hating, just cracks me up when they all claim to have spent $15-20k on suspension and install at the age of 18 claiming they "paid" for it all. And then they are the biggest shit talkers out there

So my buddy seems to think that there is a certain output of HAM than you dont need a license to use it. I disagree but he says differently. He has a Rugged "Race" hand held ham radio and says you dont need a license because it doesnt transmit far enough or strong enough.

After reading more he is dumb... I will be waiting to take my test to get one. I found a place called hamtestonline.com that says it is supposed to make you pass if you study all there shit and take there practice tests. Has anyone tried this website or used anything else to help pass?

I've seen the site and started to go through the process but I haven't had time to finish. I think that's the site Manwithoutaplan went through to train for his test. In my opinion, it's the best site for learning the required material. They start you in a good logical place for a beginner and their method of teaching (which is really just memorizing basic theories of electrical/frequency broadcasting and federal regulations). for the price, I recommend it.

the test for the license is fairly easy to pass and to study for. i bought the ARRL Ham Radio License Manual that came with a special practice exam software loaded onto a CD ROM. i studied the book each night for just an hour or two. took me three nights to read through the entire book that way. i also used the practice exam CD ROM as an exam review, that was pretty helpful to me. i also used a free practice exam APP from the Google App Store to quiz myself at work during the day while at work. i see no need into getting a paid version. just go the the App store and search "Amateur Radio"

you can order online the ARRL Ham Radio License Manual from here:
    http://www.arrl.org/ham-radio-license-manual
or you can buy it in person at the HRO store in Burbank or Anahiem.
    http://www.hamradio.com/

you can check here to find a class or club that can help study for the exam:
    http://www.arrl.org/find-an-amateur-radio-license-class

and finally, you can check here to find the closest locations to you, dates and times as to where you can take the exam:
    http://www.arrl.org/find-an-amateur-radio-license-exam-session

i took my test at the Downey Fire Station #1 that was hosted by the Downey Amateur Radio Club, those guys and gals were a bunch of uptight assholes that never smiled or laughed or showed any sense of emotion. .. no nothing. the whole place was filled with dread, it was weird and unwelcoming. testing started at 830am, i showed up at 828 thinking that the hosting club opened the doors at 830 to start letting everyone in, thats a big nope! apparently i should have been there at 815am at the very very latest. i was almost denied entry lol. go somewhere else to take the exam!!! but i was surprised that there were at least 20 other people there that day who were also taking the test as well.

i also have an old version of the ARRL license study manual that just expired June 30th of last year that i can pay it forward if anyone is interested in having it. just PM your info and i can send it you. i only ask that you pay it forward to someone else when you are done with it.
