speaking of working in the union how long is your Aprenticship?? IS your first year cw and then union company picks you Up??

 

It's just for temp power. They're gonna tear it down in 5 years but it's 35k volts running through it and it's high voltage wire so it's pretty big. And our apprenticeship is 5 years long. The cw program is just a way for contractors to get cheap labor. They're bot allowed to work on union jobsites. But it's basically just a way to get a foot in the door with a shop before you get in the apprenticeship. I was one for a year with a company and when I got called up to start then I just started with that company and already knew everyone there and had learned some things

 

ahh ok. Must be the same everywhere.

 

You can get pushed through the apprenticeship but if you, as the student, agree to that you don't get the credentials/diploma saying you finished the apprenticeship. At least over here.
We are in the carpenters Union though.

 

Not here. You can try and pass the journeyman test they have that shows you know how to do everything or you can get organized in which means you get in at a certain spot of the apprenticeship but you can't skip it unless you pass the hands on test. There's guys in my class who were non Union journeyman that are going through the apprenticeship program cause at the time they weren't hiring journeyman
