I had my first gen tacoma 4x4 for about a month before a night run starting at pilot rock with a bunch of friends turned into an empty 36 pack and front diff that turned into chunks of metal.

After that, a project truck was needed to beat on and keep the tacoma reliable.

Yes. It runs good and once I finally get around to installing the duals, I will have all the gearing I will need for that motor.

Did you all go in your truck?

 

Yeah. Maybe when I get a spare running mtor, or if I ever get around to tearing down the bad one I have to rebuild it. I would rather not mess with the reliability of it until I can easily swap the motor in case it blows.

 

Do you off road on rocks or just fire roads?

Mostly rocks. TW meets are usually on fire roads, which is kinda lame for me, but I understand because most people here are either still paying for their trucks, or cannot afford downtime on their daily drivers.

I usually drive it until something breaks.

 

Have you done deep creek and John Bull?

 

It was bad when I bought the truck. Compression was around 60 at most in each cylinder and I never bothered with it because I lucked out and found a working long block for cheaper than a rebuild kit.

Twin stick?

 

Not in this truck. Been to Gold Mountain a bunch but most people are afraid of John Bull. I went there when I had a '71 Land Cruiser a few years back.
