    Clearly you need to get some 33's on that thing so you can't even fit your spare tire under there...

    Ive been carrying my spare in the bed since 2015. It’s not so bad.
    I put a 2nd gas tank from a 1990 Ford F-150 in the spare tire location.

    OP what year is your Tacoma? Mine's a 2001 and I never got that recall. Maybe it's a regional thing?

    Like the frame recall (I know it's not actually a recall), it's likely regional, maybe specific years. I dunno. I've never really bothered to look into it because mine isn't a rusty mess.

    So if yours is a rusty pile, might be worth contacting Toyota about it, otherwise it's not one of those recalls (like ball joints) that needs to happen regardless of what it looks like.

    It's an 18 year old truck, so probably a 2001... if I did my maths right.

    Carrying a spare tire in the factory spare tire undercarriage is overrated -

    Are we going to see another thread on replacing the spare tire carrier under your truck to match the rope hooks? :rofl:

    @paetersen pics of said truck?

    they only replaced it because it was a liability if the spare tire ever fell off. Toyota doesn't seem to give a shit if your frame rusts in half though. You have to live in a certain state and be within their warranty period to get that.

    Not at all.

    The 2 bars are held by 2x10-12mm bolts each if I recall correctly; you can remove that within a few minutes.

    The part that holds the steel cable is bolted in as well. If your truck is a 5 lug, you'll want to lift it up to get underneath and undo everything; if your truck is lifted, just get underneath and go to town.

    That's the one thing I love about having a lift; unless the wheels need to come off, I don't have to bother with a jack.

    Nice! Glad to see that they still care about their customers. New or old.

    And a 33” tire will fit under there with a little trimming. Mines been hanging under there for years. :)
