Hey guys, I just got back from moab which was a 14 hour drive in my "new" 2012 tacoma that I have had for just over 3 months. The truck travels great on the highway and interstate, and has enough power for anything that I need. I have been hearing about other people having acceleration vibrations/shudders after installing a lift, but do other people who are stock have this problem? My stock truck in 1st-4th will shudder really bad if I give it more than 1/4 throttle, also when I am in 4th-6th going faster than 50mph, when I take my foot off the throttle and then put it back on I have a really jarring thunk. Is this normal, and are the two problems associated? Can i expect worse when I install my lift, even with axle shims and a CB drop? Thanks for any help.

Sounds to me like a worn out carrier bracket bushing, or worn out U joints.

With a lift, you might have no problems, you might have lots. Be prepared to do a lot of tweaking and trying different things. Axle shims+CB drop might work, or it might be no axle shims and a very short CB drop. I ended up with axle shims and an extended CB drop (using fender washers), which left me with only a small vibration right at 20 mph.

The problem is is that my truck only has 25k miles on it. Could stuff really be worn out by now?

Probably not U joints then, but the carrier bearing bushing is rubber and could have dried out. Get under there and see if there is any play at the CB.

So I just got home and crawled under the truck. The rubber feels and looks good, but there is definitely some play in the cb within the rubber ring, but I have to pressing pretty hard for it to move. Should there not be any play at all, no matter how hard you push?

The cb will have some movement under pressure, from what you stated, the next thing to check would be the u-bolts (lots have said they are under torqued from the fact.) torque them to 80ft-lbs (IIRC) and see if that helps.

So I just greased 3 of the u bolts with some random grease that was in my gun, I think axle grease, and the truck drives alot smoother, I was still getting some shudder about 20 mph but it isn't through 4th gear like it used to be. I also only got it up to 65 in 5th and 6tb and felt for the clunk, and I still felt a little something in 6th but 5th was smooth as butta. Could dry u bolts really have been causing all of that? I'm probably gonna get some better grease later this week.
