Due to the great deal put in front of my face, I have a second gen 2wd. I am planning on getting a TrueTrac LSD before the event. I am watching the videos from last year. I am planning on join the fun and getting dirty but I know that my truck is not capable of some of the holes and ruts. I understand that terrain is dependent on the weather but in general, I am curious of how capable my truck would be to join in on some of the trail rides? Are there some lighter trails?

Let me add that I have a 3" lift with General Grabbers AT2 and I understand that momentum is my friend. But until the LSD, momentum can only do so much for me.

I think some others run 2wd. Good AT or MT tires and some ground clearance and you should be fine. Keep momentum in the deep holes. If you do get stuck there will be an army of us to help you out so don't sweat it.

Yep. Plenty of helpful people will be there. But an open diff is still a problem. It would def be a great advantage if you had anything inside there to help with traction.

Fixed. If you're going to wheel, and you're going to spend the time/effort/money to install a unit, why in the world would you want to still have only one rear wheel pushing?

I'm just joking man! Only hurt for a couple hours, then the beverages started working their magic.

I do enjoy cold Miller Lite, if you feel you must.

Same tires as me. You should be okay. When they pack with mud, they're awful, so wheel spin is needed. I'm also not locked, but 4x4.
@Kerleyfries is 2wd, too. He can help ya out!

Because it is my daily driver and everyone that I have talked to recommended limited-slip over the locker. I would be interested on hearing your thoughts on the matter though.. Rear diff locker brands etc.

You are exactly right! They get full and basically become slicks... the main reason why I will be going with another brand for my next set.

They've been great tires! I'll keep mine for daily, I think. They just aren't deep mud tires is all.

However, the set of wheels I'm getting at the meet are going to be dedicated trail wheels and will have some kind of MT tars on em.

Had someone ask the same thing recently. Here's what I said.
Lot's of others here with experience with the different types.

I don't know your application, so I can't tell you if a locker is right for you. But if traction is what you want, then you want a locker. Do some homework on it.

My application would be mostly fire or back country roads/trails. I do not plan on heavy off-roading.. My plan is to build the truck to fulfill my overlanding dreams rather than dig into mud pits. Since I can see myself out in the wilderness with no one else around, I want to be self-reliant with functional self-recovery attributes. But also will have many, many, many highway miles (next big trip is like 12k with stops in every national park along the way) Right now, my plan was to get the TrueTrac LSD with good recovery traction boards.

The issues I have recently experienced and that I am looking to remediate are as follows:
    1. Getting up inclines in wet terrain - in the past, I have been stuck spinning tires on, what I call, baby hills because the bed is so light and the diff is open
    2. Compensate for the issues of tries being filled with mud
    3. Situations where I need more crawl functionality rather than momentum

I like my truck so I don't plan to get extreme enough to need armor. I have solid steel rock steps/slider for the cab but steel bumper would slow me down too much. Hopefully, this helps and again, thoughts are welcome.

Lastly, I would prefer a self-install because I enjoy learning more about my truck (price saving are nice too). I can get a TrueTrac for ~500$ and self install. At least, that is how many write-ups and videos have made it seem. I will also look into the lunchbox lockers to broaden my knowledge.

I like TrueTrac, but for their cost. You might look at a selectable locker like the ARB.

IDK, it's tough since you're not 4x4. Even with the limited slip, 1 wheel drive is still only 1 wheel drive, even if that one wheel is the one with more traction.

You make valid points. I will take them into account while researching locker and other options.

Get an actual locker. I’m 2wd on 35’s and hang with these guys pretty well. I have an actual locker, I think it’s either a Detroit Truetrac, or a powertrax. Either way, I love it. Driving on the street it’s not super noticeable unless you drive like an asshole 24/7.

You have a mechanical locker? Any chance you can find out the brand?

Also, did you install it yourself?
