I have seen a lot of people talk about this, but no answers. Does anyone kow why the taco whines when I push on the gas at around 60-70 mph. Noise goes away when I let off the gas pedal. It is not the windshield, front grill, wheel alignment, tires... Not sure if it has something to do with the transmission or clutch... Can anyone help. Also anyone searching I was getting gear grind going from 2nd to 3rd switched to Redline MT 90 and shifting good now. Still not perfect but no grinding at least. I really hope Toyota recalls the transmission but I don't think it will happen now.

A throttle dependant whine is an indicator of a preload issue on the diff pinion bearings. I'm not saying that is your issue for certain, just one of the first things I'd check. Put the transmission in neutral with the park brake on, wheels blocked, and grab ahold of the input flange on the diff. If you can get any play in the bearings you have found your culprit.

I get this too sometimes, only in 6th. Not diff or driveline related.

Mine is different. I get the whistling noise when I let off the gas around 65mph, and it goes away when I touch the gas. It doesn't make the noise if I put it in neutral and coast at that speed.

Not even sure it's possible, but could the 6th gear be straight-cut?

Someone linked a video in that thread about that guys Tundra whose engine blew at 98k miles, anyways he said the whine sounded like a pulley issue but really has something to do with the oil pump. Idk I'm just saying this in case someone knows what I'm talking about. I'll try to find the video to see if it's similar

i know what your talking bout 503. i hope to god nobody personally experiences that whine. . . . .i actually had a nightmare about it a couple nights ago.

to be more serious than my last post op, (im sorry if i came across rude) but if your fluid levels are good, and the oils are fresh, i wouldn't worry about it until it manifests into a more obvious problem. landphil has a good answer but if that is not your problem then you may be driven insane trying to figure it out.

to be less specific than he was, get under there and start yankin on stuff, take note of any slop that may be questionable in the drive line and report back. do this only after you are sure you have good oils in all drivetrain components

My 2012 OFF-ROAD does the same thing around 75-85 mph. I thought it was my A/C fan since it sometime shut off but it also could be that I wasn't accelerating. Sounds like it comes across the windshield or front end. I also suspected that it was cross-wind on the highway.

I have about 6500 on her now and the issue hasn't stopped. Haven't mentioned it to the dealership yet.

    HELP!

I get a whine around 70-80 mph (2012 TRD Sport) only when i have my foot on the accelerator. It disappears completely when i let off. I thought it sounded like it was coming from the back of my truck which i thought might be an issue with the fuel pump? I was hoping to find something on here but looks like no one has a clear idea of what it is? I guess i can check with the dealer. Around 8k miles on the odo.

This noise is deff not normal, im not sure if i have the same problem as others on this post but this noise should not be happening. It is not a gear type noise like you would hear in reverse, it is a high pitch whine noise. I don't know what kind of car or truck would it be normal to hear this noise in?
