I have a 2006 V6 PreRunner without the factory tow package. I need to install a 7 pin connector and brake controller. I have 2 questions:

    (1) Is there a write up on how to utilize the existing Trailer Light Relay found under the hood in the relay/fuse box? (Or perhaps a better way than direct wire to the battery)

    (2) The 4 pin white brake controller connector is in my truck on the driver's side kick panel. Did they include this on all Tacomas? Again, mine does not have a factory tow package so I'm not sure why it is present. Can I utilize this 4 pin connector for my brake controller? I'd assume that the wire for the brake switch would work but I'm not sure about power/ground.

    Any help is much appreciated.

I just want to close this out in case it helps anyone in the future. Please keep in mind my truck did NOT have the factory towing package.

    (1) - I just went from the battery and installed in-line circuit breakers. I would like to see an easy way to utilize the fuse/relay box under the hood.

    (2) The 4 pin connection I noted above is actually a 5 pin connection. My brake controller only used 4 of the 5 pins as can be seen in the picture. The middle pin in the row of three (red arrow pointing at it) can be utilized for the brake light trigger. It will save you the work of splicing into the brake light wiring by the pedal. The pin for power coming in did not work, even when adding both a relay and a fuse to the Trailer/Tow spots in the box under the hood. I had to bring power into the unit and then bring a wire out that goes to the 7 pin for the Trailer brakes.

    I hope this helps someone!

Were you able to use the factory plug when you brought power to the controller directly from the battery? I have the same plug, but no power. I also added fuses and a relay to to the under hood fuse/ relay box. Still no power to the factory plug under the dash.
