Yep, oil on there--its hard to read i usually fill at 6 qts, let the engine run for a few minutes, have a few beers and go back and check it

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
Better drain some. Too much oil may get wipped up and froth from the crank shaft and you'll get air bubbles.

Best bet is to get a brand new oil pan (or clean one out) and drain all the oil and refill.

a whole new oil pan? couldn't he get away with just a flush and refill? or are you suggestng there's still air bubbles stuck in the pan?

Yes. Bubbles from the froth infect the oil pan blast baffles. It’s just good practice.

Not the engine oil pan, the oil container you drain into (name is escaping me).

Just drain it and pour it back in until properly filled then pour the rest into the oil bottle for later use.

Ahhhh ok, i was thinking it was a bit overkill haha. I would've just suggested a fresh start, fresh oil and move on. 6 qts of mobil1 isn't terribly expensive---cheaper than a new engine.

7 quarts of Royal Purple is not cheap. You can't buy 6.2qts.

Anyway, what I ended up doing was loosening the drain plug and letting some drain, then checking. Did this until I had drained a little over a qt. Still could not really read the dip stick, but it seemed to be right in the middle of the two divots. The old lady has been driving the taco ever since the oil change, I'll take a look here in a bit and see how it looks.

Years ago I pulled the dipstick on my F-150 and it was bone dry. Upon looking farther I hole had rusted through the tubing right at a bend and dipstick hanging out in mid air. Took a piece of beer can wrapped it around tubing and clamped on -fixed!!

Don't know if this could be relevant, but years ago when dipping an underground fuel storage tank, my father would rub a tiny amount of chalk on the stick before dipping it so the level would be easily readable...

You cannot read the oil level by just pulling it out. You MUST pull it and clean it and wait 10 min or so....longer the better.
Now insert it and remove to read.

If you want to double-check it, same routine.....pull/clean/wait/stick it/pull it/clean/wait, etc etc.

The damn tube must touch the side of the dip syick down there and it "wicks" up oil onto the stick.

Good luck. Hard to read but in sunlight is best.
