Yes, it has been off a few times and a soft top kit came with the purchase. It's just old and beat up so I likely won't ever put it on. I do want to remove the top next summer to enjoy the weather and change all the seals.

I just wrapped up the rear refresh. I stripped the frame down and refinished it with steelit. After that the bumperettes were re-installed along with new oem taillight lenses & gaskets.

A lot of the grill mesh was blasted off and turned to rusty raw metal. I wire wheeled the whole thing and hit it with some rust reformer. Then a few coats of steelit and a fresh Toyota emblem!

Then it was time to mount the oem passenger side replacement mirror arm. The new mirror arm color didn’t match the original driver side mirror at all, and they don’t offer a replacement for that side. So I scuffed both up and painted them with the closest match I could find to the new color, and then a coat of enamel clear to finish it off. After that I polished the hardware, swapped out the base gaskets, and transferred the new mirrors over.

I was having an issue with little to no hot air coming out of the heater, and I suspected that it was heater core and/or heater valve related. So I did what I always do and took apart a good running vehicle and made it not that lol.

First thing I wanted to do was flush the heater core itself. It had some gunk but it flowed really well and was not the issue.
    IMG_3621.jpg

Then I opened the heater valve and tried blowing through it. There was corrosion inside that wasn't allowing the coolant to flow into the heater core properly. So I had found the issue and it was time to swap it out.

    IMG_3617.jpg

One of the things that really drove me crazy when I opened the hood, was seeing old nasty worm gear clamps that didn't belong. So I went to town and ordered oem clamps for the whole engine bay!

    IMG_3879.jpg

Since I was in so deep I decided to replace and refinish anything that needed attention...

The original radiator was starting to show leaks/seepage through cracks on the core and I decided to upgrade it with an aluminum radiator. The raw aluminum look was not what I was looking for, so I sprayed it with two coats of radiator specific paint.

I am waiting on a few more bits and pieces to show up before I can start re-assembly.

You've been doing such a great job fixing up your 40. Makes me feel kinda bad putting my 70 up for sale in the spring.

I got the last of the replacement decals all sorted out :spending:

    44.jpg

She failed smog pre-test but not by much! A little fine tuning sorted out co2, hc & o2 readings, but we couldn’t get the co reading any lower than 2.0 (max allowable is 1.59).

    IMG_4319.jpg

He is confident this old pile o’ parts that came with the Land Cruiser will sort out the co readings. I guess the thermoreactor exhaust manifold is the grandad catalytic and helps burn off fuel from the exhaust. Also, the air pump will help lean out the mixture while on the rollers. The silver lining is that it would be all legal again and shouldn’t be an issue smogging in the future…
