My wife and I eloped, flew to SF, spend a couple of wonderful days in a very nice hotel in the waterfront area. Then rented a car and worked our way out to Yosemite National Park. There we stayed at a very nice B&B at the border of the park. Hiked and explored both Yosemite and Mariposa Grove parks, then had a private wedding service on Inspiration Point in Yosemite after two great days relaxing in the mountains. That evening we went to a quaint private restaurant afterwards for an intimate wedding dinner and wonderful night. The next day we slept in, had a leisurely brunch, and began our journey back to the coast (Monterrey), which was our longest day of driving (approx 225 miles), and got into Monterrey in time to share a romantic dinner on the water, watching the sun set over the Pacific. We then spent a number of days leisurely driving down the PCH towards LA, spending time along the way whale watching, hiking, and exploring, before flying out of LA back to Texas. The total trip time was 10 days and just under 1000 miles driving (approx. 20 hours), best road trip ever.

If I could give any advice, it would be to not to push yourself so hard, your current itinerary is very rushed, and the amount of daily driving you have planned is brutal even if everything goes to plan, and a recipe for disaster if you hit bad weather or problems on the road. We spend 10 days just in California and felt that the amount of time on the road on couple of days was a little long. I would also skip the cheap hotels, come on man, it's your Wedding/Honeymoon trip of a lifetime.

Your lady may be agreeing with you now, but when the reality of driving over 7,000 miles in 15 days sinks in (120 hours+ of driving), if she is like my wife, it will not be pretty, and it may not be memorable for the reasons you would like it to be.

I would seriously consider flying out to the coast and making your trip a far more relaxing and enjoyable time. Other than that, congrats on your upcoming nuptials!

Our wedding ceremony on Inspiration Point in Yosemite.

Olympics national park in April...bring goretex. The park includes the Hoh Rainforest, it can be a crap shoot even in the summer.

I so don't think you're giving yourself enough time at your destinations and would suggest considering cutting some of them out.

Back to back 1k days is gonna be rough. I’d also plan on that taking longer than 15 hours. Your gonna need to stop for fuel at least 4 times which will easily add 1-2 hours. Theres also a chance to hit weather or traffic.

Glacier will likely still have snow. Last time I went, going to the sun road opened the last week of June and it was snowing at the visitor center July 2 when I was there.

I did a trip fairly similar to this and you will definitely take longer point to point. When I do trips like this, I usually do 800-1000 miles the first day or two then scale back to 300-400. It’s real hard to keep up 500+ distances every day if you aren’t used to it, especially with the unknowns you can encounter over that distance.

I'll echo some of the above.
First - congratulations on Eloping... weddings are expensive, exhausting, and useless! I always recommend eloping!

    - I did cringe at your itinerary... it is brutal as someone commented. Take it easy if you want to enjoy at least some of it! (if not end-up regretting taking the trip altogether!).

I believe you are in such a rush to do miles that you'll drive by places you'll later regret not experiencing... You are likely to fing it not so enjoyable...
Is your aim to put miles on the vehicle, or to actually experience the adventure?

Here is a suggestion - At Port Angeles; park the truck for a couple of days and hop on the ferry to Victoria (Canada) and stay at a nice hotel! Look it up... you cannot swing by that close and not visit Victoria!

Whoa.. a lot of good feedback!

I drive over 50k+ miles a year coaching soccer so I've become accustomed to driving a lot and thankfully my fiance is in the same boat.

We have some friends in Montana so if the weather in Glacier gets too bad we can bunk with them and same for Olympic. Our photographer lives near Olympic and has multiple backup plans for our photo op. I'm so bummed about Big Sur... was wanting to drive down the coast but that landslide ruined those plans.

Our "itinerary" is going to be very fluid. If the driving kicks our ass we've got a list of stops we are willing to cut out and rest up.

Haha.. I've spent so much money this past year on gear and she hasn't complained one time. She's even chipped in on a lot of it and joins in on my hood rat activities so I'll keep her around.

I think even a long haul truck driver would say that is an aggressive drive schedule. Not sure I would want to do that much driving with to little time to relax. You are going to spend hours on end driving through pure boredom. My back aches from the thought of a trip like that. I wish you the best of luck.

    Right! :canada:

    - I was in the 'Roadtrip/Adventure!' frame of mind while writing that ... tuned out the covid altogether... :angrygirl::frusty::facepalm:

Maybe staying in the truck is not such a bad idea...

    :D

Whatever you do... -I'm sure it will be fun!

Love to visit NP's. We did GC, Zion and Bryce Canyon in 2018. Great trip. GC was nice but it was a "been there, done that" experience. Zion was outstanding and I'd go back in a heartbeat. We've also been to Lassen Volcanic NP in Northern CA. We liked it very much but it is one of the more remote NP's in the lower 48. The "Cinder Cone" is a must hike experience....but not for the out of shape, 50 something I was, at the time....:bananadead: Covid has put a lot of plans on hiatus but we will visit many more NP's in the future.....so much stunning, natural beauty in this country....

I'm a hardcore driver, but that's too hardcore for me. Ive done one 1100 mile day after folding up and hitching my camper, and that day whipped my butt. Leaving Charleston at first light, negotiating that trailer through downtown Dallas well after dark, while loopy from exhaustion...all I can say is thank goodness I made it home on a Saturday because I was completely useless that Sunday. The idea of two of those in a row is a hard no.

I agree with everything said above. You are missing a ton of gorgeous scenery from that trip, to the point where you won't see anything but the bumper stickers on the car in front of you.

I’ve driven cross country a few times and I am in the same boat as others with 1000 miles a day being too much to enjoy the trip. All you are doing is drive, gas up, eat, potty, drive, gas up, eat, potty, repeat. Slow down and smell the flowers, life is too short to rush to the end!
