I forgot to post here. I pick up some rings and soft shackles from Red Winches. Had fun setting up some practice pulls. Rings worked great but I definitely need to get a line extension. I was surprised how short the winch line gets folded in half.:anonymous:

Why are you pulling from the welded look and not your recovery points? I’d rather use a hard shackle on the bumper than soft shackle on welded loop. Unless this was just a test and you don’t plan on doing this real world.

Easy answer is I was just practicing simple tests with very little load. Since that day I’ve done some more research and it seems people don’t like to use that wielded loop.
Do you happen to know what the load rating is?

I don’t believe there is an official load rating, since it’s not officially a recovery point. As far as I know, it’s just there for securing the truck for transport.

And it’s crazy to me companies are still selling shackles with diamond knots instead of the superior button knot than has come out and rated stronger.. Noted by the tail coming out the knot.

Still, at $55 the price isn't bad even if you take into account shipping. I might order two. Now what color to get?

A month later and these came in today:

A little smaller than I thought they’d be but I went through the pics posted here and they seem about on par with the other companies.

Relentless front and rear bumpers, Warn M-8000S Winch, Relentless RockSliders, bigger tires, bed cover RTT ... and more big changes in the works.
The minimum bend radius is stated as 8 times the diameter by most manufactures. My rings have over an 8x dimension for up to 7/16" line, since most winch line is 3/8" (or 6/16") and close to 7x for 1/2" line.
An interesting side note on bend radius and synthetic line is winch drums sizes, they are much less than the 8x bend radius around the drum.

Cool. Not really a new concept. This idea has need used in climbing for awhile

    upload_2019-11-6_8-8-26.jpg

Obviously, they have demonstrated success, but in climbing I don’t think anyone would dare run the pulley on a soft sling. The melting point of dyneema and nylon is so low that even under climbing loads you can saw though one. But, the slings are smaller, so I don’t know. Just feels wrong.

A little while ago I picked up a couple of 8T ones from Red Winches
    IMG_20191031_48270.jpg IMG_20191031_23238.jpg IMG_20191031_14168.jpg

Didn't have a chance to actually use them IRL yet, only tested with this kick ass 1/2" shackle (thanks Jay:hattip:) while re-spooling my winch line

    https://youtu.be/2KwLQ59UuhY

The 8T ring looks puny compared to 18T one...

ANY knot in a line where tension is going to be applied is a stupid idea. Take a few minutes and put in a proper splice.

? knots are used under tension in nearly all situations. A splice is typically stronger but only by a little bit. Use the correct knots for the job and line material and you’ll be fine.
