Did some more reading: land cruiser gear won't work because it's high pinion, the clamshell is mid pinion. Looks like drilling out the holes another 1mm is solution.

This is definitely the concern with the LC 4.10 gears, but ZUK has a set and is going to try them. If you look at the diff from an LC, it definitely looks more mid-pinion than previous models that were clearly high-pinion. Won't know for sure until he does. I'm still hopeful for a drop-in solution w/o drilling, for everyone's sake ;)

And when I say it looks mid-pinion, I'm referring to the picture below, from this build.[IMG]

However, this image is not so mid-pinion :

I’m definitely interested in the outcome. My other Toyota trucks I’ve run front and rear truetracs, makes the truck a traction finding beast. I was very disappointed with the lack of such option on the 2nd gen.

What I wouldn't give for a V8 AWD taco, but I don't really want (or have the means: time, garage) to do a big swap like that... so I'll piecemeal a V6 version together instead ;)

    It's a no-go on the TLC 4.10 gears.

Swap the manual transfecase from the 6spd fj and run the fj front diff setup that deletes the add

How do you plan on going about testing if it works once installed?

Well, torsen differentials are mechanical in nature... there isn’t really anything to test. Once Ken tells me he was able to get a good alignment with the FJC 3.91 gears on the FRS carrier it’s pretty straight forward.

My plan is to regear the rear to 3.91 with a TrueTrac and then swap both diffs into my truck. As soon as I can after that, I will get the AWD transfer case and necessary bits ordered to complete the drivetrain.

Maybe I’m not entirely following what you’re saying here. I think the only piece left, assuming Ken gets the 3.91 gears I sent him to align well (after drilling out the FRS carrier) is to get the non-ADD diff tube back onto the diff and shove the driver side CV axle into the front diff.

Might be silly of me, but I’m not concerned about this piece. I’m 99.9% sure all of that will fit without issue.
