    A thing or two...
The manual trans FJCs were AWD. The auto trans FJCs had the manual shift transfer case that most people want. The manual shift transfer case will bolt to the automatic v6 Tacoma trans and 2tr manual trans as is. You can mount the manual transfer case to the manual v6 Tacoma trans if you swap the input shaft from the Tacoma transfer case to the FJC transfer case.

The OP is the first I'm hearing of someone putting the FJC AWD transfer case into a Tacoma, so I don't how the input shaft on the AWD transfer case compares to the Tacoma transfer case shafts or if they can be swapped.

@bwawuz02 What is the diameter and spline count of the transfer case that you just received? What was the donor vehicle?

Thanks for the info guys. I got confused and figured the transfercase he was swapping in is like the one in the gx470. I am pretty sure all the gx470s use the same auto trans as the 05-15 tacomas so it made sense to me. This seems like an interesting project I think the results are going to be awesome once it is complete.

I'm going to guess the 6-speed manual in the FJ is same as 6-speed in Tacoma, which makes the compatibility obvious

The pic is actually of a transfer case from a 2017 GX460 (eBay listing), same exact part number (361006D401) as what came in the 2003-2009 V8 AWD T4R. The V8 T4Rs have the same auto trans as 2nd gen Tacoma 4x4s, A750. I haven't test fit anything yet, but I'm pretty sure this should bolt right up; electronics will be the part that needs sorting.

I picked up a 4H/4L switch from V8 T4R and tested it in my truck, switching to 4L works but switching back to 4H does not. I also picked up a 4x4 computer from a V8 T4R, which I'm hoping will magically plug-n-play with the taco harness. The one piece I know I'll have to address is converting the taco's separate output to the t-case/e-locker into a single plug into the T4R/GX460 t-case.

I swear there is a guy selling a transfer case like that on the forum, doesn’t bump the thread but still had it when I spoke to him about 5-7 months ago. He was willing to let it go for a great price but I decided against AWD and didn’t pull the trigger. I found it by searching for a part number, can’t recall which one atm. I’ll see if I can find it later today.

Just ordered a shorter rear driveshaft from Tom Wood to accommodate the AWD transfer case, already have the front shaft from an AWD T4R. Tomorrow's list: T4R front brakes, front wheel bearings, and front diff. Rear diff on Saturday.

Nice! Really curious how that diff is gonna work out in the front. The Raptor had a Torsen front since 2012 but to avoid steering issues they set the preload (or whatever it's called) to zero and in some situations the computer still applies brakes to stop wheel spin and transfer torque

Hmm, yeah, I hope all goes smoothly. My truck is an 07 without any traction nannies, so hopefully that's not an issue.

Your truck non having any electronic traction aids isn't going to be an issue.
What I was getting at is the internal Torsen mechanism because it comes from a rear end where steering wasn't a concern.
    It will probably be fine

It was a race against the clock, but I finished the front up (brakes still have a little air in them, will purge tmrw). I’d say the only thing I noticed (other than the 4WD lights flashing because no ADD) was the lack of needle bearing vibes. Once I have the rear diff in tmrw I’ll find a way to trick the ADD and switch it into 4WD to test the front diff under load. I drove it 70 miles at 70mph and the truck just feels more solid all around (new wheel bearings and T4R brakes). I’ll try to get more pics tmrw, too.

Auto Hobby shop @ McChord AFB.

I didn’t get any new pics today, sorry. I did have to swap the input flange on the diff, but that was pretty straightforward. The 3.91 gears on stock tires definitely adds a little pep and the TrueTrac is putting the power down much better than the factory LSD. Still need to figure out how I’m going to do the electrical 4WD mode switching and hoping to install the AWD transfer case next weekend.

You got the front rotors and pistons from the 4Runner or you did a rear disc conversion with 4Runner parts?

    I wish I had 17" wheels

You can upgrade to the lexas brakes, they are larger than stock but still fit with 16” rims

I guess so... thought some had a difference. But for a 16” rim E130B7AE-26B7-4FB9-9411-BDF12EFBCC6B.jpg

And there is the 10-14 4runner with even larger, but require 17” rims
