    A thing or two...
03-09 4Runner had 3 different size brake options. The biggest was shared with the 03-09 GX470. The reason why everyone calls it a Lexus brake swap is because the Lexus only had the one size of brakes. For 10+ 4Runner/GX460 there is only 1 size of brakes. Either way they're all a 338mm rotor that requires a 17" rim, and they all can be retrofitted onto a Tacoma.

I just ordered a latching relay and am going to try and solder it into the old ADD actuator housing/connector. I've never done anything with relays like this before, but from reading about them it sounds like the latching relay should be able to simulate the ADD actuator using the reversing polarity from the ADD motor's power to set/reset the relay.

I did the 10-14 T4R brakes up front and will eventually add rear discs (Sequoia?)

I guess I forgot to mention that the install was pretty painless for the front diff. Both driver and passenger CVs popped in with a couple light taps from the old brass drift & 4lb hammer (tool I use most). I've driven it at least a few hundred miles and there aren't any leaks, everything feels solid (still haven't put load through it yet).

So you’re running around in AWD, just haven’t taken it off road yet?

I think he means the LSD front isn't causing any handling issues.
Sounded to me like he doesn't have the AWD tcase in yet or at least has not tricked his ADD into permanent engagement yet

It drives! I’ve only driven it the 70 miles back from the shop, but so far so good. I still have to figure out the wiring to get 4LO and center diff locking to work. The front traction does take some getting used to, but it’s not bad. I need to drive it a little more to really get a better feel for it. Definitely feels like a completely different truck.

Did you get the 4Runner 4wd computer? No way I can think of that the taco 4wd computer or any manual switch will work. Because the taco has 1 shift fork and the 4Runner has 2 shift forks.

So it feels different even though the front is unlocked still?

I installed the AWD transfer case with no electronics, so there is power going to all 4 wheels, full-time 4wd. It shits and gets with no take-off shudder, but there are some vibes in the rear above 70mph (I’m not sure if these are from tire/wheel imbalance or driveshaft). I’m going to keep driving it and see how well everything holds up. You’re right though, I’m gonna have to install the AWD ecu and re-wire the connectors to match as they should without running new harness.

AWD needs a ECU? So it has a lockable center diff?

That's not the one he used. I think he has an electronic tcase from a Lexus

Edit: Looking back, he did used one out of a Lexus, but said it was the same as 4th gen 4runner with the v8 tcase for full time AWD

If you want to stay part time use the case out of the 4th gen 4runner with auto v6

No. The v6 4Runner case has the center locker as well as 2wd, 4wd, and 4low

The v8 4runner is full time awd

Sure? So basically it has the ability to turn off the center lock in 4Hi? Interesting. So it's like the Taco case plus AWD?

I wish there is a stand alone center diff that could be bolted on an output of the diff to add AWD.

I have the v6 4runner case in my truck. It’s what I used to do the prerunner conversion.

Yea you can lock and unlock the center locker in 4hi and 4low
