I was thinking about doing a 8.8 rear end swap. I was wondering if this was a direct bolt in swap? I know you have to have the ford to Toyota adapter! I have a 7.5 rear end now but there isn't much selection for gears. My Tacoma it a 2wd with a 4in drop in the rear. I have 3 junk explorers so I already own the rear end. I'm getting ready to order flex-a-form rear spring and a hellwig sway bar for the rear just thought this would be a good swap.

Unless the leaf perches are the same distance apart, you also have to worry about brake lines, abs (if applicable), the emergency brake (both retrofitting to your system, and accommodating for the disc brakes), wheel lug pattern, and shock placement.

What are your reasons for thinking it would be a good swap?

Because he's putting an 8.8 litre engine in!

Honestly I wouldn't care if your engine was made by the Keebler Elves if you could stuff an engine that big in there

Back to the real topic - what gear ratio do you want?

no. they didnt start making the tacoma until 1995.5. Before that they were just Toyota Pickups. Literally. That was the model. Pickup. Regardless, different rear end.

I wouldnt bother with the swap, unless you are getting the gear ratio, and LSD. Otherwise it is hardly worth it.
