Yes, racing Baja, at least the SCORE races requires lots of disposable income. A sport for the rich. There are sportsman classes and Class 11 to help get working people into it. You must join SCORE, read the rule book, get involved, have pit support (Baja Pits, BFG, Mag 7, are some).

...have your car inspected/tagged, chaser, fuel, pit support, etc, etc, etc.
Spectating is so much more fun. Wake up on one coast, sunset on the other with taco's in between. Damn, I won't be back until 2020...

'21 is probably the earliest I'll be back, baby due in November. Drifter is sold, Taco is going up for sale. Nomad ordered and '19 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 6.2L v8 already bought. I should have a supercharger, bumpers, long travel kit, glass and 37s by then assuming I don't decide to move over to an F-150 with the 5.0 (would get the same build and maybe step up to 39s) 2 kids, 1 in a rear facing, a 60lb dog and the lady was gonna be cramped in the Taco...

Aw shit, what happened to Poncho? Met him 4 years ago, my dog got in a fight with his pup, then we had a beer. Good guy
I'm going back next week, introduce my fiancee to Baja, will do a similar route.

Just to make sure people are prepared I’ll add the following. 5 dudes and 10 surfboards in my 94 22RE 4wd, catching a hurricane swell in Punto Abriejos. Epic waves for a few days until an old rusty truck with at least 8 locals of 4th world appearance parked next to my truck and found the keys. A good 20 mins of fight later they left, with us refusing to be left without anything 100 mi from the nearest telephone. We retained the vehicle and they drove off. Would never think of heading to Mexico again for ‘fun’. It does happen and we were lucky that time.

One of my friends was kidnapped and held for ransom for 3 days in TJ. They were trying to get 20k out of his family and forced him to call them begging. The family involved the FBI. He escaped on the 3rd day. There are infinite stories like this, "Welcome to Mexico!"

And warm water. Last time I was in Cabo the water was 85F, had to get out every couple hours to cool off on the beach. Even in SoCal it is light wetsuits almost year round, but is much less of a drive ;)

Lol I will never go to baja again. If you go, look into Punto Abriejos (26°42′52″N 113°34′20″W). It is a couple hour fireroad drive off the main highway to a tiny town situated right on the knee about halfway down the finger, right where baja starts to bend inland a bit more. This point is epic for catching swell. It is out in the middle of nowhere, and there is a 'surf camp' at one point on the beach that Americans will park together at. Used to be one of my favorite places. Also fun is to drive to Cabo, then start driving east once you hit the point and all those beaches are unclaimed, you can just find one and claim it with your truck, and hope people leave you alone.
