General question: Who daily drives their vehicle? Who has a commuter car? How far is your commute?

Mine is a daily driver. I don't drive that much since I'm in school though. It will still be my daily when I graduate and work in LA. It wasn't too bad this summer on my 23 mile daily commute to the office.

I should mention that the company pays for my gas and depreciation of vehicle though.

Yea, I take the bus every day, but I have to leave the house at 615 in Lompoc and don't get home until 7pm. With a cheap beater car, I could leave at 0700 and be home at 6:00pm - nearly two hours per day. With the money I spend on fuel driving the truck to the bus stop and then the fuel I spend monthly in the scooter commuting Goleta to SB, plus insurance, I might as well get a car that gets 40mpg and call it done.

Yea, leasing isn't an option since it would be used 120 miles per day! A high mileage lease would take a lot of negotiating. Then factor in fuel costs and I'm easily spending double what I spend now.

Thing was the definition of a beater though. It shook, made noise, rumbled, but it ran fine, got great mileage, and always came up clean in the shop.

The company I worked for in LA this summer and will be working for when I graduate pays 55 cents per mile that you have to drive for them. It covers gas and depreciation. I calculated out that my truck costs 20 cents per mile of gas. I started driving hers to work and it only cost 6 cents a mile. I started making an extra 200 bucks per pay period! Haha I need a little beater like that.

I'm hoping I can pick up a 2001 VW Jetta turbo diesel for $2,300. 50 mpg sounds pretty good. Salvage title and no air conditioning haha

But dieselgate... Lol I have no clue who would actually take their car in to get less gas mileage with the recall.

It all depends if we can find a spot to ride that isn't too far away & it's worth getting wet...
