How much trouble would you get into by camping at Glass Factory? I know it's a mess up there with the shooters. No wood fire.

I want to camp close and Tajiguas is another choice.

Aren't there regulations against shooting right now. You shouldn't have an issue with them.

This location doesn't have a fire ring... Location: 34°31'25.4"N 119°55'24.9"W. I wasn't planning on shooting, just camping with some buds.

I have one of those camp chef propane fire pits. Even the rangers think it's cool after they approach me with their ticket books out haha

Do you have any videos of that fire ring in action? I'm curious.

My review from 07-12-2011 on ExpeditionPortal:
"OK - I took this bad boy and a 20lb propane tank to Baja. Freakin' awesome. The simplicity of hooking it up (the tank sits a good 6feet from the pit behind your chair) and ease of use is great. I never had it on full blast and used the valve on the fire ring to control the fire size. When it's dark out, it's plenty of light. Also, the lava rocks get warm and it's a great source of warmth! While it wasn't very cold out, I as well as others had to back up a bit once the rocks were fully heated up!

Over two nights of a fews hours usage each, we maybe used 1/3 of a 20lb propane tank without lugging any wood, getting sap in my van, or smelling smoky. Granted it's missing the "characteristics" of a real fire and I'll use a wood fire if I have one, this is an awesome little propane fire at 1/2 the price of the Campfire in a Can model!"

Thanks for that! The spot I indicated usually has shooters at it and it a shooter's trash dump as well. :( It's such a cool spot to pull off, but the last time I was there it was full of shooter trash.

Hmmm I'll probably only go as far south as Tajiguas. Even the radio said LA people were flooding out to SB. Beach party time

I'm interested in your WR 450, how much? Also spotted you at cold springs yesterday, super crowded.

Your rig is plenty ready for Big Bear. You could easily do Gold Mountain, loop around and do Jacoby Canyon. Then cruise into Holcomb Valley for some dirt road woods driving. You could also take Burns Canyon all the way down to Pioneertown and back. That's usually my preferred morning moto ride. Breakfast, chill, ride to Pioneertown, lunch, ride back up to Jacoby, into Holcomb and around back to the lake. Back in time for dinner and brews.

If you want to do the hard stuff like John Bull or Holcomb Creek, then yes, you do. Big Bear is a big place!
If you want a fun weekend of wheelin', drive out from OC or wherever you are now, and camp just below Angeles Oaks in the valley. There are lots of roads at the low elevation to have fun and some creeks to camp next to. Then take Clark's Grade up to Big Bear - all dirt and a few rocky sections (nothing my 1986 VW Westfalia van couldn't handle). Then find a Yellow Post site south of the lake and pitch camp. Drive around those roads a bit or cruise out to Holcomb Valley. Saturday do the stuff I mentioned above. On Sunday, pack it in and cruise back down Clark's grade or drive out the north side via Holcomb Valley and loop back around. Or drive back down to Pioneertown for lunch and catch the freeway home.
