My VX-3R HAM cannot transmit on weatherman. Need 146.585.

Accidentally ordered myself an extra set of Hawk LTS pads. Anyone here want to buy them so I don't have to return? $60 flat.

Of course not, you have a quality type-approved radio, and not a spurious potatofang :).

That aside, "Weatherman" is a designated itinerant frequency in the VHF business pool. You (all) need an appropriate license to transmit on that frequency, even if it's not coordinated.

This isn't necessarily directed at you, but just a friendly reminder that it's illegal to transmit on amateur radio bands without a license. The test is conducted, here in town, regularly by SBARC on saturday mornings. The next test is September 10th. The technician test (most basic level) is extremely easy to pass. If your goal is solely to pass the test and learn as little as possible (and "get a license to learn more"), then there are countless smart phone apps (all questions and answers are available ahead of time) where you can know enough in an afternoon of cramming or a week on the can instead of browsing cat videos or whatever the cool kids are doing these days. HamStudy.Org is another great resource, and actually provides a rational for why an answer is the right one. For traditional textbook learning, AARL's books are an often recommended source. I know it can be daunting, as there aren't enough quality sources targeted towards offroad use. And, what's worse, is there's a lot of dubious/erroneous information given out by people who should know better (like on this site :crapstorm:). In any rate, I know I'm pissing in the wind here, but I'm still happy to help anyone who shows a legitimate interest with just about anything related to RF. From learning to installs to construction.

I'd like to do this, but this weekend it's a walkie talkie.

Not sure, but I put a little "TW" sign in front of our site. Outside of a hairpin. It's just above the first large open family site on the right. If you see a more populated area with a bathroom on the left, you are too far. Up at the top with reception now, going down to camp. Radio on.
