Hey guys! SD guy poking his head into this thread. Going on a camping trip up in Santa Paula next weekend and I was wondering if anyone knew of good trails to hike and also explore a little bit with in the truck. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

I would say hungry valley ohv is the area to go explore in truck. There's a creek close by there thats pretty cool for hiking and swimming. And other than that there's hundreds of hiking trails in the pinos area.

Got sliders? From what I’ve seen looks like a stock taco can get through it but sliders will definitely keep damage to a minimum.

You'll be ok without sliders pick the right line on both those trails. Sliders really put in work in the parking lot. Mine are wrecked from saving me from door dings.

Does anyone have recommendations for a solar panel controller? I'm not looking for anything fancy with a touch screen or buttons or anything. Just an IN and OUT with a pot to control the voltage output to the battery.

I used one of these to charge my work truck with an arb fridge for 4 years, never had a dead battery. Only good to 7 amps, I had it hooked to a 100 watt panel.

They are all good. They will give you a map and you'll be fine on all of them. If Your not confident in your rig stay off pronghorn. And homestead is pretty washed out but you'll be fine. Freeman goes to a cool picnic spot in a cavern like shaded area.

    Ditto what 2009 taco said....

Your truck is able to do everything in 'the valley'. Meaning, anything in the areas around and in view of the camping areas is easily doable in 2WD.

Some of the 'Black' for 4WD trails outside the valley are Homestead, Freeman and Pronghorn. Pronghorn is difficult.
Vic's Cat Canyon trail is a 'Black', it is steep and has some sharp switchback turns and probably the most difficult.

I don't mind using my 4x4 but definitely not trying to have a big rock/boulder kiss my door. Stay off Pronghorn then?
