Sounds good Chris, I’ll be in touch if & when I’m ready to go forward with that. I really appreciate you offering to help.

    I will, thanks Chris!

    Nice investment you have there!
    I see a Bus in that picture...:spy:

I wish we still lived in a house with a decent size garage. I can’t stand condo living.

I remember using those sketchy 2 piece spring compressors that look like this:

When I was putting Bilstein 5100’s w/ stock coils in the front of my 2004 Tacoma(damn I miss that truck) I swapped the coils using those. I think I rented them from Orielly’s.

I think my main concern is not knowing how much time it will take me to rebuild the coilovers as I really can’t afford downtime. Nor do I have a front end shock replacements to install, which would allow me more time to rebuild.

Yeah those rental compressors scare the shit out of me, and they don't fit my larger springs. There was no way I was going to risk using them. On my first coil swap/rebuild I found the "cheapest" local shop to take them off (using the same compressor I have now) charged me $80!! A few months later I found one on Craig's List that I just couldn't pass up. It's already paid for itself.

If you have the rebuild kit and oil and have access to something to pressurize them you can easily get them done in one night after work. Assuming you're not painting them or anything. That being said, pretty sure I still have 2 sets of OEM coilovers in my garage that you can borrow while you rebuild them. One set has spacers installed and the other does not.

About the Bus...(don't hate on me for this! :D ) I'm pretty sure i'm converting it to an electric motor and building my own battery pack that should get me 400+ miles on one charge if my calculations are correct. That's my next project. The motor alone is $7k though. :(

    Right on! Sounds Good Chris.

Not going to hate on you man. I think that’s a really cool idea for your bus!
I remember seeing a video of some guy in Southern California that did that to his bus years back. I was impressed. If I can find it, I’ll post a link to it here.

I’ve been looking for one here but no luck. Everything is overpriced or I get no response from the CL listing.

One of the main reasons people favor nitrogen for tires is because the molecules are larger than compressed air so they are less likely to escape/leak. I’m not sure if it’s the same thought process for shocks but I know a couple guys that have run compressed air in their shocks and they seem to run fine. Can’t say much about long term though.

That's exactly why I swooped on that one the day it came up for sale. $350 for it, basically new!

pretty much this! Compressed air will cause emulsion in the shocks, has water in it, and also expands/contracts with temperature changes which are all bad for shock performance. The other gases (like nitrogen) do not or are at least less likely to.

There are a lot of the LT guys that just use welding gas because it acts identical to Nitrogen. I've never done it but it seems to work. I would not use compressed air unless its just for a short trip to fill up with Nitro.

Now I'm craving a nitro beer!!

    Thanks for your input Sergio...
dang truck is clunking and making a racket when I go over bumps. I need to figure out what’s going on and tighten it all up.

If your shocks need a rebuild that could actually be a source of the clunk. I had that experience myself. I had a small oil leak in one of my coil overs and that developed into a pocket of air inside the shock. What I was told by DC Shocks was that the piston would essentially slam through the pocket of air before reaching the shock oil and that was the clunk I was hearing. They said it wasn’t going to cause damage but would be annoying as hell until the shock was rebuilt and filled to the proper level. I chased that damn noise down for weeks.

Same. Happened on my Icons (well past the time I should have rebuilt them).

I found that photo of the climb my friend Brian & I did when having some fun on West Camino. Joe took the photo(to give credit where it’s deserved).

    Nice one.
I can’t place exactly where that one is, so I don’t know if I’ve done it. Pretty sure I have though.

I recently installed a Honeywell electrostatic filter in the HVAC stack to replace the traditional filter. I had heard it is what bars used to use to clear smoke when that was a thing. Instead of filter media it has charged interdigitated plates at around 15 kV DC.

So far it has fully mitigated the smoke smell indoors yet the garage is pretty stanky still from the plume that seemed to pass near sunset. This is the first test, it is very much worth the time to install.
