i will eventually. i just cant afford to pay the shop price of like 4-6k for a full cage. i just dont have that cash. if i could weld it would be a lot easier.

I can weld and I'm not even going to attempt a cage just because I've never done one and want to learn how to do it right for my own safety...just one of those things thats not worth risking.
I got quoted 2k for a engine and cab cage at a few shops around here.

see id be down for a cab cage and engine cage for 2k that seems logical for sure. i know my truck is a bit bigger but i know all im really paying for is time. tubing cant be that much.

If you got quoted 2k, they are using mild steel (HREW) and not DOM. And 2 grand...that's just seems stupid cheap.

Oh to be young an naive.
You've clearly never priced out metal before. The metal alone to do my cage is going to be between $750-1000. For yours...significantly more. You're truck is almost 5000 lbs, which means you'll have to run 2" tubing instead of 1.75, and you'll need probably 30-40% more tubing than I would cause your truck is so damn big.

strip the truck before you bring it in(take out the dash, removed all the seats and liner etc.). itll save you some mulah. but expect to pay about 4-5grand for a cage. bigger truck, bigger/more tubing, bigger bills.

like jason told me a loooong time ago, gotta pay to play.

He quoted me pretty cheap cause I'm buddies with him haha. He uses all DOM and 4130. He is also going to prototype a LT kit for my truck sometime this year. Its all like a packaged deal...

You said "a few shops" and neglected to mention the friend discount.
If you're getting a deal, good for you, just saying that's not the norm. Material alone for a legit prerunner cage on an access cab, bumper to bumper, is almost a grand, and I get stupid good price on tubing.
