You are right about the "stiff" thingy. I thought the same thing and did not want the ride on my truck to be too rough on daily driving. After the install it could not be farther from the truth. I LOVE the ride now. I think the "stiff" ride theme may be from the coil spacers that mount UNDER the top plate pre-loading the springs and making the ride stiffer. The spacers that mount on TOP of the top plate don't change the ride, but lifts the truck.
I think I got about 3" of front lift and 2" of rear lift. Icon says that their 3 leaf add-a-leaf (PN 51100) adds 1 1/2" lift, but I left the overload spring in adding another 1/2". I definitely recommend doing the install this way and would never have thought about until I ran across THIS thread.
Anyway, let me know if you need any more help. If you need help with the install PM me, I have tons of tools (including air tools which make the job go WAY faster) and even have the graphite lube.

I looked under my truck today at my AAL install, am I being OCD here?
The plate that the U bolts go into is just a tiny bit tilted to the front.

Edit: also noticed a clacking/creaking sound when I accelerate in reverse.

2nd edit: the sound has gone away.

I don't recall the plate that the U-Bolts bolt to being tilted one way or another. Did you put the add-a-leafs with the long side toward the rear (that is how they are supposed to go)? Make sure the centering pin is in the hole and that the plate that sits on TOP of the springs that the U-Bolts sit on is centered too. Also, make sure that the nuts on the U-Bolt are pretty equally on the bolt (check how much thread is visible after the nuts are installed). Oh, and if there is an angle shim between the leaf springs and axle mount make sure the narrow (thinner) side is forward.
Other than that I am not sure what else to advise. Hope this helps.

It could have been your leafs just settling in(if there is such a process)after the new addition to pack.

Yeah what I was meaning was the nuts weren't all equal, on side had a little more thread exposed. So the sound is gone, I re torqued the U bolts, I think it's gonna be okay.

You might have just torqued them down unevenly and it pulled the front down more than the rear?? I would just loosen everything up again and retorque it.

EDIT: guess I was a little slow on my response. :)
