Savoy Cafe & Deli. I had my doubts at first but, when I had a nice hot plate with good sized portion of deliciously cooked chicken breast, mashed potatoes, and green beans....accompanied witha delicous cold beer from the tap....I was a happy man.

I need help figuring out what leafs to get!! This is driving me absolutely bonkers.... :goingcrazy:
I need to get all the parts on and be done with it already

TacoBrah was kind enough to take me for a ride in his truck yesterday after I got off work so I have an idea what the Icons & Wheelers 3 leaf AAL will ride like. Thanks again man, that was cool of you

Im sure youve been asked before, but how do you use your truck? Do you carry a lot of weight all the time? How much lift do you want? What are you putting up front?

Realistically, it's primarily on the street but I like to not be limited when I want to go somewhere with it. I want to be able to go romp around in the Alabama Hills when I take my trips up the 395. I'd like to have higher clearence under the truck so I can drive over uneaven ground & rocks. Most of the time I don't have more than a long board or cooler in the bed of the truck. Sometimes I will put my ladies kayak and some other gear in it. On my camping trips I put a bunch of wood, cooler, chairs, etc... no more than 250lbs I wouldn't think.

I just don't want the ass end to be sitting up super high compared to the front. I'm only going to put the front up to 2.5" max. I don't mind a little rake..1/2" maybe..

I know I know...I just read all these stories about the rear sitting up too high, the springs are too stiff, the Dakars start squeeking a lot and you have to put a specific material between the leafs in a couple different spots as well as grease them, etc. I dunno, maybe I'm over thinking all this but, then again...I can't afford to do it wrong the first time and have to buy a send pack. Hence all my reading everything I can on TW & TTORA about leaf spring replacement. I even looked at this thread ---> http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/28660-show-off-your-double-cab-short-bed.html to see what other TW members that have a DCSB are running etc. If I learned anything about putting aftermarket parts on your vehicles, it that you really need to do your homework or it's going to be Way more expensive than you originally anticipated.

You could try a 3 leaf AAL, and for <$200 if you dont like it its not too big of a loss, could probably recoup some of that on the classifieds here. After you ruled out a 3 leaf you could then try Dakars with a leaf removed.

I have the Icon 3 leaf progressive AALs on my truck and love them. Wheeler's makes GREAT stuff and stand behind what they sell, their customer service/tech support cannot be beat.
As far as the squeaking goes, you really should install the anti-friction pads on both ends of EVERY leaf that doesn't already have one. It makes the ride super quiet. Also, as far as the "grease" is concerned, make sure to use a dry graphite lube. It goes on like spray paint and dries like paint so it does not attract dust/debris. If you use an oily or greasy substance it just collects muck and ends up getting noisy quicker. When I installed my AALs I drilled the ends and installed Wheeler's anti-friction pads (they are only $1 each) and cleaned off all of the leafs (stock and AALs) with denatured alcohol and then sprayed them generously with the dry graphite before reassembling the leaf pack. My leafs are SUPER quiet. Also, on the Icon AALs they tell you to remove the overload spring, but after reading THIS thread, I decided to leave them in. It helps when you have a really heavy load and gives an additional 1/2" lift.

BTW, I keep hearing about "meets". Is there a local club or something? Just curious.

All ive used is that dry graphite stuff. Havent added any of those pads or anything, and mine are silent. Timmaaaah i think your only make noise at your hangers, and the leafs are fine. Right? I could just be lucky???

I feel the same. There are tacomas all over goleta today!

After they get wet and start to get a little funky they will probably start making some noise without the pads installed, they make a HUGE difference. Toyota already has them on most of the stock leafs, it's the aftermarket ones that need them.
The one thing I neglected was the leaf spring bushings. I think I am going to order the Energy Suspension kit from Wheeler's.
