Man, I'm glad I do not live in IV... I take runs through there sometimes but try to run around west campus so I don't get run over! I don't know why IV has so few sidewalks...?
Not to say that Im that far away, but I live just on the other side of El Colegio. Still only takes me 7 minutes to get to class on my bike.

Did west camino cielo for the first time Sunday evening. It was cool for a quick run to get some dirt in your system. Had to take the wife's 4 runner though because my truck was being a bitch and didn't want to start again.

Just a heads up for those who are planners: I'm going up to the Big Caliente Hot Springs (staying at Middle Santa Ynez Campground or the little site near Big Caliente) for Presidents' Day Weekend Feb 14-16. I'll have a group of people up there having a good time!

Close to West, there is really only East Camino. Which has some nice scenic trails for dirtbikes but other than that it's basically a fire road that dead ends at some campsites and a few hot springs. There is one flat spot with a nice hump in the road that will throw you in the air if you're going fast enough. :spy: I don't know of anything else on that side :notsure:

My girlfriend and I were looking at doing this run or Big Caliente. Any experience with those two? Which is better?

Ask your gf if she just wants to wheel or if she wants to make some dust and have a hot tub in the middle of the mountains with a beer. Don't get me wrong, I like wheelin' as much as anyone but put a hot spring in the mix with a good beer and I'll be there. In fact, I'm doing a day run on Saturday.

I second this ^ !! Considering how short it is, you might as well start the trek at Refugio, and end it at the hotsprings! :notsure: :D To make it that much better just bring a tent and make it a night! Pretty sure fire in marked rings are legal right now as well!

When you going up Saturday Motoman? I might be in. Haven't been up there I a while!

She's definitely the hot tubbing type. You suggesting Big Caliente?

That sounds pretty sweet. I love getting to take this tent out.

Yes, fires are OK in campground campfire rings. I second the camping part - make sure to take extra blankets because it's COLD up there at night...better share body heat :D There are also picnic tables at each campsite so no need to bring extra supplies!

I'm probably going up Saturday around midday. Grab a sandwich and cooler supplies in town with my girl and my pup and then have some dirt road fun.

Yes, little caliente is closed right now. Big Caliente is the only thing open. If you camp overnight, there's nothing like being in the middle of the wildland, with your girl, drinking a beer, in a natural hot spring with all the stars above.

Maybe I'll look for it :spy:

If you ever see me come say hi! I rarely have the chance to leave IV but I love cruising around downtown.
