I FINALLY got a hold of the Ranger's office. For those interested:
Hunting is allowed in the National Forest 150 feet from the nearest road, trail, etc etc like that PDF stated.
Target shooting is NOT allowed anywhere except designated areas - and for where I was specifically asking (near the aqua caliente hot springs and Pendola Station) the only spot is Glass Factory. You may NOT hike in and set up targets.

I've read the laws are different. But I wouldn't doubt they are saying that to keep people from leaving shit where they shoot. I've never had a problem off of west in the boonies, and to be honest its kind of rare to see a ranger out there. However, the areas where you can tell people commonly shoot are littered pretty bad... theres a water heater and tv's up there for christ sakes

Does anybody here know the difference between the regular and student membership at the Winchester Gun Club? I'm sending in my app but it says that the student pass has restrictions that the regular one does not and I want to know what the restrictions are haha. Any members here?

I did some research on it a few months back and I would go with the student one. Way, way waaay cheaper. Dont remember the specific restrictions though.

Dont have my guns down here with me or I would have gotten a student membership

Thank God a member. Mind answering a few stupid questions?

What are the hours for members? I know it is only open to the public on weekends but I was wondering if there are restrictions for members.

Are there lockers I can leave some firearms in? I know this is rare but my old club had it and I would greatly prefer to leave some there as I have roommates.

    Thanks!

I really like the price but don't want weird restrictions.

It was 10/yr last year for a full student membership.
Now it's 70$, and you aren't given the codes for the gates. The only advantage is you pay a member rate for the range on the public days. So not only is it 70$ annually, but it costs money everytime you want to shoot, and you can only do so when it's open to the public.

    Take me with you haha!
I thought it was kind of shady for them to raise the prices so high, but they must of had problems with younger people up there or maybe they thought they could milk some more money out of it.

Yeah I could see a few reasons. We should do a TW meetup there sometime maybe? For those of you in this thread that feel the need to exercise your second amendment of course!

Ya I'd go too if it works with all my classwork.. but like I said, dont have my guns with me so I would probably have to bum some time off of one of you (and of course chip in for ammo)

I have a few if you know what you're doing and being your own ammo. I go up to west with my friends just about weekly to shoot steel.

My father is coming into town next weekend so I'll probably go up with him next Saturday the 21st in the morning to check the club out before deciding if I will join or not. Anybody else heading up that day?

That sounds like fun but, what if you don't have your own method of exercising your second amendment?

Maybe I could just drive up and say hello then

I'm feeling that right now. I'm trying to find a place to store my guns because I have roommates. Even with a safe I'm not feelin it. I think I'll end up just leaving them at my girlfriends fathers house.

Whenever you go up with me you're welcome to use anything I have with me. Just pay for your own ammo and all we would have to do is switch off between weapons.

Yeah, I completely understand. I wouldn't feel comfortable having firearms around roommates either.

It's not even that I don't trust them it's just that our door is always unlocked and Isla Vista isn't too hot on their opinion of guns lately. A couple of my friends found out that I'm signing up for the rifle and pistol team in fall and they thought I was a crazy person.
