Right, and thanks. I understand that much of it.

Right, but isn't the axle beam being twisted at the pivot bushing ( where the axles tubes mount to the frame )as it cycles through the travel?

I had a '90 Bronco when I was stationed at Pendleton, I would go on desert exploration trips quiet a bit. I was replacing a lot of the radius arm mount bushings and the beam pivot bushings because of the way the components would "bind" as the cycled. I wasn't going fast, just a lot of suspension movement.

Great dash choice! This is the most tasteful toyota build I have ever seen. The best year Toyota ever, best motor setup, absolutely amazing work, a crazy original vintagy quilted dash that breaks up the race perfectly! So well done man! Stunning!

Thanks man... and sorry to disappoint but that’s the old dash, the new one has been modernized just a little bit :)

Yes the axle travels in an arc but if the beam isn't solidly mounted to the radius arm it would flop like a wet noodle. You could build a radius arm with 2 heim joints at the beam similar to when people put 2 heims on a ladder bar in the rear to prevent axle wrap.

I get that, and thanks for explaining. I can't see where there is any "give" for the binding that happens when the axle beams are swinging up and down. On the OE setup, the rubber bushings at the radius arm mount could move in and out a little. There's a heim on this radius arm frame mount. Obviously 81 Trekker knows what he's doing or he wouldn't have designed it the way that he did, I'm just trying to wrap my head around it.

Think about the radius arm and I beam as one piece similar to a lower control arm. The whole thing moves up and down together and doesn’t bind though out the travel because the i beam and radius arm are so long. The down side to TTB is the camber/caster change. The caster at full drop is 1 degree and goes all the way up to 18 degrees at full bump. Camber goes plus/minus a ton too. TTB are really strong and work amazing if you can look past the geometry changes

Thanks for taking the time to explain it better for me, when I thought of it as a 1 piece LCA the concept clicked..

So I decided to completely redo the rear suspension, ended up with about 30” of travel and I tig welded it all like an idiot. Oh I also got my motor back, it’s now a 4.5l, 4l80 and atlas are in and mounted with ZERO room to spare and the truck is currently at RPM getting a full tig welded, stainless exhaust.
