You should do something a little more scientific. There are lots of reasons to dislike the 10% ethanol that is rammed down our throats (for the record I am an ethanol hater) but a 10% difference in mpg isn't one of them. The energy contained in US standard summertime gasoline is 114,500 BTU/gal. Standard E10 is 111,836 BTU/gal.

Mobil definitely refines its own gas. But they sell it to shell, amoco, sunoco, you name it. Ditto for shell and even exxon. I don't know where the additives are mixed in, whether it be at the refinery or on the truck, but as we came by today there was a Shell truck dropping off gas at the local Exxon station right down the road.

Ethanol contains about 66% of the energy as an equivalent amount of gasoline. Our local gas is 10-15% ethanol, unless you hunt to find E0 at an inflated prices (lots of boating marinas sell it). If you use the usual e15, then you get 85% of the normal gasoline in a gallon of liquid, the other 15% is ethanol. That 15% liquid only has 10% of the energy of an equivalent amount of gas. So at E15, you are buying about 95% of the energy of a straight gasoline mixture. It becomes a matter of simple math. If your E0 costs more than 5% more per gallon, stick with E15 and you get the best deal. I'd avoid the E85 like the plague however.

I think the bad thing is the E85 people that are filling up and paying much more for the same amount of energy, and thinking they are getting a good deal. The FARMERS are getting the good deal with the extra corn sales. A local city went to all E85 for police and everything. Citizens pointed out "you are spending MORE of our money per mile than before, so how exactly is this a good deal for us since we are paying the taxes that buy that corn crap?"

I can not make my truck ping it is a 6 spd and if you would be able to make any thing ping it's going to be a manual trans. This means that if you believe the ECU is jacking up the timing to it's max point till it pings then cutting back my truck is right at that point so why would I want to waste money? There is more heat energy in 87 than there is in 91/93. Granted some farmers made out pretty good making ethanol but the incentives have long been dropped and the basic ideal was not to make farmers rich but to cut the US dependence on foreign oil imports. The 10% many seem to talk about is quantity not quality ethanol burns and burns quite well it's octane rating is around 100 so it is not just going out the tail pipe it's making power.

It generally is illegal to dispense ethanol free fuels in states where it is required into cars/trucks if a marina is doing so they can be fined the same holds true for airports. Our local airport will sell it to you in a container but filling some thing 5 gallons at a time seems counterproductive and the last time I looked it was $5.59 a gallon.

The reason why this happens is that octane 87 has ethanol in it. In ur user manual, ethanol blended gasoline is strictly a no-no with Toyota.

Performance issues? Gas Mileage? Tapping or noises? Guess what, your
re-fueling stations are using ethanol mixed in your regualr 87 octane tanks.

Yes, you will have to pay more.

    It sucks.

Call Toyota, tell them to get a more flexible engine in there...

    Thank you...

It is only 3.59 a gallon here. But that is compared to 2.07 per gallon for 87 E15. The marina pumps I was talking about ONLY fuel boats. Of course my bass boat holds almost 40 gallons so I could fill up and then transfer. But not at that price.
