885 + 5100 > 5100 at 2.5"

    I've got 5100's set at 2.5" right now and the ride is pretty stiff and i'm not all that happy with it. After doing some research it looks like the 885's with the 5100's set at 0" should make it a lot smoother, right?

    Chris4x4 any spring rate numbers you care to quote to reinforce what i'm saying?

    I know the 5100's aren't ideal vs the OME shocks but I don't want to lay out the money for new shocks right now.

    i belive so...

    in a previous thread, i believe chris stated that the rate of the oems at 2.5 are ~700, whereas the OME and bils are ~600.

    the spring rate is like 590# with 885 and around 700ish# with the stock springs...

    I have 885s with 5100... and it just over 2.5, like 2.75

    so with 885 and the stock Blisteine, you should have a taller ride height? around 2 to 2.5?

    What do the spring numbers mean? Is a smaller number better? I am assuming the OME is a better spring but do not understand why other than providing lift.

    Sorry for the noob question. Trying to figure out what route I am looking at.

    The lower spring rate number means that your truck will ride smoother as compared to a higher number. the 590# means that it takes 590 pounds to compress the spring one inch. Hence it will compress more when going over bumps compared to something that takes 700 pounds to compress one inch.

    Someone back me up here.. or shoot me down if i'm wrong

    Thats correct. To Add: the softer the spring, the lower the lift height. :)

    They are using the stock spring compressed 2.5" w/ the 5100's will yeild a 700# spring thus giving that tooth rattling ride and the OME and 5100's at 0" producing 600# will give a softer ride. Correct? And that was the 885's.

    So, the 885's give a smoother ride that the stock springs? And the 884's would give an even softer ride? Also providing about 1" less. So if I understand correctly, having the 885's gives you about 3" of lift yet give a better ride than stock? And if a 884 is used, would the ride get even better yet provide 2" of lift?

    So does that mean the stock springs are junky?

    If am following you guys right, if I were to get 884's w/ OME shocks I should have a great feeling ride and grab 2" of lift? If true, that seems pretty sweet and a good upgrade path other than coilovers. Not too mention alot cheaper. Would this be a good setup? 884's w/ OME n140s and TSB rear? If one had to grade that setup over stock what would you say? 50% better ride etc etc? I am just looking to raise my front up a tad after the rear TSB. Don't need alot of lift, just enough to look even but want to increase ride quality. Sorry for the threadjack.

    Keep in mind the OME springs are still a higher spring rate than the non preloaded OEM spring. SO,,the ride will still be a little more firm than the stock truck with no lift.

    So the OME shock in the stock spring will yield a better ride (w/ no lift) than an OME shock and 884's (while grabbing some lift)?

    I am right in thinking that the only advantage of adding the 884's or 885's is lift, or if you have lot of weight on the nose (plow, heavy bumber etc)?

    What about a spacer on top of the OME/stock spring? Is that like total ass? Or will the ride not be affected? I think I need like 1-1.5" of lift in the nose to give me a even kinda look after the TSB. (More on drivers side of course) I kinda like the factory rake. I guess I am looking for a cheap out rather than coilovers for what I am looking to do.

    The stock spring is fine until you preload with the bilsteins... then the spring rate goes up to ~700 lbs. the 885s will lift your truck ~2.5 w/ bilsteins and provide a smother ride than just bilsteins @ 2.5 with stock springs.

    So stock springs on 5100s at the 0 or lowest position will not preload the spring anymore than the stock shocks? I am not looking to lift just better shock dampning.

    Does anyone have dim. on the OME springs mainly free length wire dia. and coil inside dia.?
    While we are at it what is the stock wire dia. and coil incide dia.
    I found the length was 14" correct?

    I spent about 2 hours searching and trying to find info and these ar the questions I am having trouble finding.

    Hey there solus...

    Regarding the OME 885's on the Bilstein 5100's:

    I am thinking of doing just that also with bottom retainer setting on the Bilsteins so that all the lift (+- 2.5") is provided by the 885 springs.

    Is there any unique hardware required (that I need to order) to mount the 885's on the 5100's and to install on the vehicle? Presently I have the stock Toyota TRD Bilstein springs mounted at .85 inch.

    Just want to make sure all I need to order are the 885 springs and nothing else.
