    Hey guys,

Ordered a couple of jl audio 10w1v2's for my truck and the company called and said "were out of the 4ohm version, is the 8ohm alright?" I said I didn't know, but told them I was running a jl audio 500/1v2 amp and they said 8 ohms were fine. Do I need to hold out for the 4ohms, or will the 8ohms be alright?

    Excuse my ignorance...

The 4ohm speakers will be way more efficient, taking less power than the 8ohm speakers.

Can you explain efficient? The guy said that normally he wouldn't run 8ohm, but this jl audio amp runs constant power so I can just parallel the subs to 4ohm and I'll be fine... Or something like that

It depends on how much power you want to run from the amp. By "a couple" I'm going to assume 2, at this point with the 8 ohm version you can wire them to run at 4 ohms or at 16 ohms. With the 4 ohm version you can wire to a 2 ohm or an 8 ohm final load. Personally, I'd hold out for the 4 ohm version's so that you can run the full 500rms of that amp at a 2 ohm final load rather than 300rms that the 4 ohm final load of the dual 8 ohm subs will deliver.

Edit: I'm not sure what he means by efficient but the higher the ohm load the less the power will be. A 1 ohm load will run higher power easier whereas a 4 ohm load will run power a little harder.

We were all noobz at once, hell I'm just now getting into building my own ported boxes and I've been installing for friends for a few years. Good luck.

Exactly more efficient, better use of the amps power.

I, also would hold out for the 4ohm models, or shop elsewhere.

Update... They said the 4ohms were backordered through JL so I said I didnt want the 8ohms. So now I'm back to square one. Looking for different sub now. I liked those because I found them for $110 a piece, haha.

I would love to hear suggestions of another sub you might suggest... Note I'm only working with 5" mounting depth...

Shop around, some other shop may have them in stock if that's what you want.

I don't have to have those... I don't know much around them. I had w7's and I loved them so much I just fell in love with jl audio. But I'll search some posts on here, do a little bit of googling, and see what I can find out... Thanks again gentleman

If you've got the money the JL TW5 is an excellent sub. Also you can fit W3's in the back of a 2nd gen DC.

I was looking and the top mount depth is 5.93" so that scares me...

Here is a link to my box... http://www.halfpricecaraudio.com/To...l-10-Subwoofer-Enclosure-Sealed-Box-Black.htm

I was looking at the JL 10w1's (http://www.woofersetc.com/p-2731-10w1v2-jl-audio-10-subwoofer.aspx) but I talked to crutchfield and he is recommending the rockford fosgate's... He said he likes JL but he thinks they are made more for ported boxes, so he recommended these rockford fosgate's for a sealed box (http://www.crutchfield.com/p_575R2SD410/Rockford-Fosgate-R2SD4-10.html?tp=111)

I also found some kenwood's that look like they've gotten pretty good reviews (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9849_Kenwood-eXcelon-KFC-XW1000F.html)...

    Thoughts?

A friend of mine has those kenwood's and I really like them. He has them in a generic pre-fab ported box "tuned to 30Hz" so they don't sound as good as they could but still rock along nicely.

If it hasent been said, the higher the ohm load the less thd you get, but it dosent really matter with subwoofers

BTW, I think I made a mistake ordering from onlinecarstereo.com... All their reviews online are GARBAGE!!!! I've been calling them all day seeing when my stuff will ship out... If it doesn't ship out by EOD, I guess I'll be cancelling and going back to square 1...

I'll keep y'all in the loop...
